Great news and hopefully the start of a run of good news items for the club.

Given the comments of the MRC Chairman on the weekend, maybe the Training Base announcement is coming soon.

A few more F/S names in the next few years will also be welcome.

Also let’s not forget, Kalani has some younger brothers who may be good footballers in a few years.

Fantastic news!!

We desperately need young talented big men

With Simmena coming in as a NGA too, things are looking up

Very special moment. Let’s hope he follows in his father’s footsteps and becomes a great player.

Kudos to the club for developing and supporting him for so many years.

This is the one piece of history and nostalgia that I hope remains forever in the league. It’s such a unique initiative and it makes our game great.

Well done Kalani. 34 is waiting for you!

The amazing thing about this kid is that since the announcement was made yesterday, he's grown from 198cm to 202cm.

I've also grown since the announcement.

In January Kalani told me to “Watch out for Taj” (his younger brother). ❤️💙

Battle for #34, then. Sinnema sported it on the weekend!

If they make it in extra large, shouldn’t be a problem, as that would be a tent on Toby.

We had the same thought at the same time. Great minds!

I’m guessing Toby wore #34 because there wasn’t any other numbered jumper available. It fit him well so clearly they’ll have to make a bigger one for Kalani.

Earlier this year I came up behind Ricky Mentha and asked him why he wasn’t wearing his own number. He said he was. I said no, you’re wearing #34. He said sch!ttt, I picked up the wrong jumper! All the boys laughed, then Woey Jnr asked, “Who’s number 34?” I said, “Kalani White” which was met with cheering and clapping from everyone ❤️💙

We should stay calm on young White. It will take some time for him to become an AFL player. Couple of preseasons and learnings at Casey will help and I hope he does make it and be nearly as good as his old man.

I liked that they gave Toby a number from the 1-50 (thanks again, BBB!) Melbourne-list series rather than one from the Casey 51+ series

Such great news for the club and relief for Jeff, fancy having to barrack for Gold Coast. Thanks Kalani and Tim Lamb for bringing this about, we have all been tracking Kalani since he was a baby. His dad took three years to mature and hit his straps and what a great footballer he turned out to be. Feeling really chuffed about Kalani’s choice provides a bit of a lift for the whole club.👍❤️💙

I think we should look at him as a longer term project - give him the time to develop at Casey with no pressure to come on in the firsts for a couple of years. He is not the messiah. Look at how the Bulldogs have developed their f/s talls in the 2’s and then they come in and smash it!

I'm personally rapt that he chose to come to us as his preferred option. Welcome Kalani Let's make the Dees a Force again. May take a little while but let's hope from this year on we are all amped again.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
