I was looking recently at the list of newcomers the club has taken on board for the coming season and noted that Melbourne has nine players (including two rookies) who have yet to play any games of AFL:-

Liam Hulett, Jayden Hunt, Max King, Mitch King, Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca, Joel Smith (r), Josh Wagner and Sam Weideman

In addition Tomas Bugg, Ben Kennedy and Jake Melksham have AFL experience but not with the Demons.

There's no race involved here but I've always considered that Petracca would be the first of the list players to break through for a debut AFL game but, based on reports I've heard and read from training, it wouldn't surprise if Clayton Oliver gave him a run for his money.

Anyone else feel the same?

They will both debut Round 1 (Petracca and Oliver)!

Melksham, Bugg and Petracca, barring injuries, will play rd 1.

Looking forward to seeing the rest have a run in the nab challenge, Hunt in particular.

I predict Oliver first out of the draftees. Started playing GV senior football at the age of 16 which is a very strong standard league with a lot of ex AFL players running around.

Petracca is the obvious one too.

Hellooo Elwood !

I reckon since we play the 'GWS G I ants',   first up @ the 'g'... maybe Bugg,,, along with Petracca come into the team...?   I don't think we can afford too much inexperience at this stage as we move to climb the ladder in a strong way this season.

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/season/fixture-and-results

Ladder results are now more important at this stage of the clubs rise,   after 2 heavy years of rebuild.

but of course training form is the key.

Then again maybe this bloke might surprise a few next year considering he is physically ready to go :o

He's a big lad isn't he. With that sort of frame i could see him and the Track both playing as marking targets in the forward 50. I liked his interview with Burgo on his firts training day: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2015-12-03/meet-liam-hulett

Hulett has a good frame and good muscle definition but is still a skinny first year tall and probably going to be started in a new position down back for Casey. He's a while off.

Petracca: Round 1

Oliver: First half of the year

Max King, Wagner, Hunt: By round 15

Mitch King, Weideman, Hulett, J Smith: try for a late round debut

Hopefully none of them get  a late debut as it will likely mean we are in finals contention

Petracca, Melksham, Bugg,

I reckon Roosy will make Oliver earn it

I have to say I'm disappointed that none of the usual suspects (Biffen, Daisy, BBO) have bothered to post this video yet. This thread is crying out for it.

Oliver might just have nudged level with Petracca now.

I would say he is in front WJ

No.5 has surrendered his chance of playing at best early in the 2016 season.

Mr Oliver is making every post a winner in the interim.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
