sorry S6S, your right there are many white caps,  so I see the one i'm talking about is COliver... now can you tell me the taller one, skinny kid, please?

oliver looks as I would expect in close shot,  but smaller than expected other side of pack, when with the ball... I hope that makes him slippery around packs. ;)

Thanks for displaying the player's names 666! It certainly makes the picture tell a more complete story as I couldn't otherwise pick King or Hulett.

Are we talking baseball good doctor?

No, just bad puns, Moonie. But you can credit me with more wisdom than that if you like.

Can anyone explain why boxing appears to be an integral part of football training? Is it (a) reflexes, (b) coping with fear, (c) bicep development, (d) coping with pain (when hit), (e) all of the above, (f) something else altogether? Frankly, I can't see what it offers...but obviously it must have some value.

Boxing is a fantastic form of anaerobic fitness that involves very little loading of the joints. It gets the heart rate right up. It's also very good for upper body strength.

Great pics thanx 666

While there are still some skinny scrawny types the muscle development seems years ahead of usual

and you seem to have captured them as they are really applying themselves. Good muscle definition and the expressions seem more intense as well.

Are you getting the feeling that there is a greater intensity in their work than last year?

I'm probably not the best judge of how there going in the preseason. They look better to me each year with the exception of one M Neeld's 2nd year. I did have a brief chat to Brendan McCartney and he reckons they're going to be all right. Said there is a real trust developing between the group which was totally lacking when he arrived.

A small gallery to finish off this exercise.

I'm off on a short beak now to recharge the batteries for the coming year. Hope you've all enjoyed this little indulgence of mine.

Enjoy the New Year festivities and keep safe.

The boys are back on Monday and the footy is just around the corner

See you in the New Year.

Go Dees,

thanks again 666 for comments and pics

If you keep up the visuals we can get some commentary from the other training watchers.

I have to say, I am so impressed with the attitude Oliver has shown this year.  The amount of weight he lost before being drafted, the way he attacked the draft combine, living away from his family to make it easier to play footy.  I'm sure it's these things as much as his form late in the season that lifted him right up the order.  So often we've had talented kids who didn't want to work hard.  Here we seem to have a kid who started doing the hard work on his own and is loving being given more now that he's at a club.  I really hope he continues in this vein.

I really appreciate the time you have taken to name those players.  Many of us take time to get used to regognising new players, even some of the second years.  Well done.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
