Winning can only help, imagine if we beat St Kilda next weekend then start the season 2-0, that will really help the membership numbers.

Another reason yesterday's game was not all bad.

The main event will come in the home and away season, though. A win over GWS in Round 1 will be huge but a win (more importantly, not a loss) against Essendon in Round 2 will be better. We're in Tasmania in Round 3 but if we can be 2-1 and playing decent football heading into the Sunday arvo MCG away game against Collingwood that could be a great game for us in terms of media attraction, memberships, and positivity.

Signed up again though in a modified form. Got myself an armchair membership due to me being overseas. Will get the digital league pass in due time but will make it a month to month proposition rather than pay off my membership as I don't really need it 12 months a year.

Wish I could be in Melbs for the rise.

They have done the call around this year? When is that due to take place? Usually they have a membership drive and get players to call people. I have to say that our membership staff at the game and on family day were pretty slack. They sit there in their tent waiting for people to co e to them. Wouldnt hurt to go and make contact with the people in line. I mean on saturday the line was a mile long. It was 15 bucks to get in without a membership, surely you go 'sell' those waiting the benefits of a membership. Slack.

Also they pack it all up before the end of the game. Why notopen up at the end and get people who are in a good mood after a win.

That's pretty poor not to have people walking around and out the front asking if people are members? That's one of the oldest tricks in the book! Maybe they need to get some better sales people involved, ultimately that is what you're trying to do- sell the benefits of becoming a member and the value.

You do realise that the majority of people who sell memberships at games do so on a volunteer basis?? These people don't get paid to sit outside in the sun and miss the majority of the game. They do so because they love the club. It's very easy to throw stones from a distance. How about ringing the club and offering your thoughts or even your time to assist?

I have given my time in the padt to help. You do realise that not all are volunteers and one of the people we have hired to do membership and merchandise is an unashamed Richmond fan who just puts on an MFC shirt on gamedays. I know this because she posted photos during our logo launch and then a visit to her page shows her in Richmond scarfs and jumpers. Real passionate volunteer. If you cant sell memberships and we only have part time volunteers doing this job then we are still an amateur organisation

I've suggested this a couple of times - not just people in a good mood after a win but people who may be a bit "merry" as well. Set it up outside the MCC/Ponsford area and one on the Southern Stand side to try and catch those who aren't already MFC members.

Many MFC employees do support other clubs. I can tell you that that the majority of those people who man the membership tents like Jan and Debbie are passionate Dees who give up their own time to support the club. How far do you think they can stretch the budget??? Again, it's easy to take shots from the sidelines. And those ring a-rounds that you refer to from the players generally take place the week before Rd 1.

That's our Round 1 membership record from yesteryear.

I think you'll find they've put that figure up so we can beat it.

I will be putting 4 names to the membership tally tomorrow after work. I'll grab a poster and some membership forms for my students as well.

The benefit of a few wins,eh.

We now might just beat our prior record of 32,451 before round 1.  Need 1,433 in 2 weeks!

Quite doable!!  Especially if we win vs StK on Sunday.

No commentary is needed about MFC employees on this Forum.

If you have concerns, raise them with the club.

I will comment on the Richmond supporting Melbourne employee mentioned before. She helped me renew 4 memberships on Tuesday afternoon. She is a charming girl, totally professional in what she was doing and we had a good old chat. I suggested she barracked for Richmond, which must have made her think I was psychic. Of course, if you read Demonland, you just about know everything .......................eventually.

Saints have already beaten their tally from last year having just cracked 33K.

Wonder what they are doing compared to us to get their membership turning over better than us when they finished behind us and their prospects don't look any better than ours.

probably that they just have a better defined "local" region to draw on i.e. basically anything south of the city

1) They are moving back to Moorabbin

2) They still have a large latent supporter base from when they were constantly a top 4/GF team 5-10 years ago.

3) Their young guns have been around a bit longer than ours so supporters can see earlier potential to rise up the ladder.

4) They beat bottom sides!

TBH outside of diehard Demon fans and DL's I doubt the outside world knows much about us or follow what our team does outside of season proper (and may not even then) so most outsiders would say STk prospects are better than ours.

Of course, all will learn otherwise during this season!

31,434 today.  An increase of 910 in a week.

We need 1,017 in the next 10 days to break our 'pre round 1 record' of 32,451.

Very doable!  Especially after the Etihad victory on Sunday.

15/3/16 - 31,434

16/3/15 - 29,510

15/3/14 - 30,421

14/3/13 - 26,751

14/3/12 - 26,791

So still around 2000 ahead of same time last year.  Let's hope we end up further ahead than that. Spoke to the membership department today and they are expecting a good increase over the next week with lots of telephone evenings and a few other initiatives.

Glad to see she is doing her job...we have another one working that is passionate Kangas supporter who has equal parts of North Melbourne love on her instagram. I just find it very odd that the club employs passionate supporters of other clubs. I am uncertain how you can have two teams ... but i guess that is coz I am one-eyed and passionate.

However, I still believe that it is inappropriate for MFC employees to be posting photos in support of other clubs. it isn't a good look.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
