There are precedents (not necessarily in AFL) for persons being suspended / stood down pending investigations.

Couldn't agree more.  Threatening blinding someone is about the worst type of GBH one can imagine.   Sort of stuff medieval armies melted out to the vanquished.  And maybe ISIS.

Let's not lose grasp of the fact that there is a gigantic difference between threatening something and actually doing it

Not necessarily a gigantic difference, especially if a drunk / drugged madman then goes ahead and does it.

Correct. It is exactly why i made my original comment at the top of the thread.

The guy was of his box on a cocktail of whatever, and then supposedley he was downing Sake shots.

Can you imagine how confronting that would be to have someone in that condition threatening you with a sharp object near your eye?

Not if that person is on a cocktail of dance party biscuits and sake shots it isn't.

no, you see, that is precisely the difference... he didn't do it

It's all in the same parcel.

Assault and Battery. You can assault someone verbally, battery is when you follow through with that physically.

Threats to kill is a very serious offence punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.     If he had done it, it would be murder.

That's why he hasn't been charged with murder. Strange world you must live in if that's a redeeming factor.

Let's just charge him with murder then if it's all the same. Why not mass-murder, because threatening to kill somebody is the same as actually murdering a lot of people, all in the same parcel.

he was seriously being compared to a medieval torturer and ISIS

The only thing I care about in this story is that he will likely miss the game against the Dees in round 5.

Might make us favorites

i think you are being a bit harsh on curry

he was only pointing out a very important difference in law between threatening something and doing it,

it may have been luck he didn't do anything physical but that is just pure conjecture. the fact is that he didn't

people need to apply some perspective here and have some tolerance to others who have a different perspective even if only slightly different. it gets very hard here to have a calm, rational discussion with so much emotion and hyperbole flying around and poster abuse

martin is in big trouble no doubt and deservedly, but judging on what courts hand out for similar offences i think many here will be sorely disappointed

it is more likely his afl/richmond punishment will hurt him more and have more impact on his behaviour, but that does remain to be seen.

There's no room for excuses and but's if there is to be any improvement to this problem.

He threatened to kill someone and physically intimated them. To then say "oh but he didn't actually kill her" is to dilute the issue just like others have done in saying the woman should have not said anything.

The post immediately previous to yours saying that that poster only cared he might miss the game against the Dees should give you an indication of the depth of the problem this country is facing.

Doubt it very much daisy.

Any form of Police punishment will be trotted out by R.F.C / A.F.L, as a reason to NOT further punish him, or at least mitigate the punishment, as it will have been dealt with "through the courts"

High profile AFL player = exemptions that the rest of us would be unlikely to see.

If every drunk who threatened to kill someone got jail time, the Gov would have to build a few more jails.

Im all for him being suspended for a good number of weeks, but jail time is maybe a bit over the top, considering the stuff that warrants no jail time at all.

The AFL could end this pretty quick, with targeted drug testing. Test the loon out of the game. But no, they wont do anything like that, because it affects the brand.

A clear misogynist making excuses for a man threatening to kill a woman from behind his computer screen and bikini-clad avatar. How appropriate.

Why do you have to always go that little bit too far Stuie?

we all know your thoughts on the matter. Curry is actually right. The idiot didn't kill this woman or injure her physically. As i said if he was full of disco biscuits and sake it is lucky. But it also is what actually happened.

The one thing i do know is this

dustin will have no memory of it at all, so he is a very lucky fcukwit...

but he deserves to go down for it...

faulty, it is my hope that afl/richmond will not wait for the police/court decision and they will act within days. remember martin has admitted guilt

if they wait what might be 6-12 months then i'm afraid you might be right

More excuses and "but"s.

And I see you "liked" that guys post about the only thing that matters is Dustin missing a game against us.

You are part of the problem whether you realize it or not.

Perhaps Stuie could recommend an appropriate punishment for Martin? I'd love to hear it. Should make  ISIL look soft on crime.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
