Possibly but i doubt it. If someone got injured he was ready to go

No injuries so nothing happened.

This is the end, beautiful friend
This is the end, my once captain, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look at your "9", again

Can you picture what will be, way out at Casey
Desperately in need, of high disposal tally
On the MCG

...

The coach awoke before dawn, he got his clipboard out
He took a New Balance training jacket from the ancient cupboard
And he walked on down the hall

And he came to a door, and he looked inside
Jack? yes coach? I want to drop you
Trenners ... I want to ... delist you

...

This is the end, my once captain, the end
It hurts to set you free
But you'll never get on the 'G
This is the end

Far more eloquent than mine... lovely.

Sorry, but it's just as possible that one of the assistant coaches came up to him while he was getting changed and said, "Jack, this is our plan for you today ..."ย

Yep, you're probably right, they probably put no thought into how they'd structure their last hit out before the season proper, just fly by the seat of their pants and hope for the best. Alternatively they thought it would be funny to play a joke on Jack, tell him he was playing and then say "just tricking" at the last moment.ย  Or perhaps they just wanted to pizz him right off and get him and all his mates offside.ย  What a wicked bunch they are.

Honestly sometimes I despair but I'll just move on.

unfortunately for Trenners, his injury has seen his career jeopardised. He was given plenty of time to recover and make it back to the big leagues, but he is simply not the player her was, let alone what he would've developed into, prior to his foot injury.

No, I would think at the end of this season you could say that.

He's been given this year to make it back...the seasonย hasn't started yet.

Lets see how it pans out.

Btw, if Trengove was only making up the numbers in case of a last minute injury, why did he spend the entire game on the bench in his playing outfit????

Because we wanted to play as close to match rotations as possible with 23 but if 1 or 2 got injured during the match Jack could play. ย It's not that hard.

  • 2 months later...

Seems like hisย cards are marked. Cant see him being recalled to the side anytime this year.ย

Really wanted to see him make it back to the the seniors however we are stacked with similar players. Jones, Oliver, Tyson, viney andย Lewis all play a similar role and are in front of him.ย ย

Only Watts, jones and ย T mac remainย from the dreaded neeldย days.ย

Painful, but let's visit the 2009 draft shall we.

Pick 1 - T$ - bust (though compo did help us land Hogan)

Pick 2 - Trenners - unfortunately a bustย  (was tracking well early days :()

Pick 11 - Jordan Gysberts - Bust

Pick 18 - Tapscott - Bust

Pick 34 - Max Gawn - Yay we got one right!

Pick 50 - Fitzpatrick - Bust

ย

One out of six. With 5 picks in the top 34 (4 in the first 18). This draft could've wielded the likes of Martin, Talia, Fyfe, Carlisle along with Gawn. A back-line set, an AA ruckman and 2 A-grade mids.

Christ, BP really did screw the pooch on this one, FMD.ย

Scully and Trengove were the obvious 1-2, so I'm not going to hang BP out forย that.

Where we seemed to go wrong was the amount of picksย in the teens weย butchered through the years.ย So many nearly players who just didn't cut it in the bad environment of the time e.g. Gysberts, Tapscott, Strauss, Blease etc.

I wonder if Trenners will get another go elsewhere if he is indeed gone like most of us think.

We probably have one of the strongest inside mid brigades in the comp. Hard not to see someone taking a free hit with him.

We got pick 3 and 4 for Scully; 3 was ontraded back to GWS for the Hogan mini-draft pick. ย Sadly we drafted the Toump with pick 4, but I see that as failure independent to the outcome of the Scully pick. ย The compensation we got for Scully was good and I'd prefer Hogan. ย Trengove's horrendous injury outcome wasn't predictable and is in no way is BP's fault - that's just luck of the draw.

As Forest Demon said above, it was those 10-20 picks that really slaughtered us and set us back years. ย I'm quite happy to blame BP for that. ย Gawn was an inspired pick though.

I think you mean Bailey days and you might find that Col Garland remains as well although probably and unfortunately never to grace the G as well.

Heย is so far down the pecking order , he won't play another game for the MFC. ย

I doubt another club will pick him up at season's end, ย if he evenย decides to play on.

Unfortunately for Jack, his position as a 5th midfielder role as occupied by Dom Tyson. Jack would be the perfect mid if Tyson/Lewis got injured.ย

Jack is a high quality young man. His injury was a cruel setback. He played 80 games in his first 4 years (aged 19 to 22), and was a premier midfielder. His injury in 2014 was another MFC curse.ย

Without complaints, he plays with all his heartย at Casey and IS A LEADER at that level this year.

I can see another club taking a free hit if Jack was delisted, most likely Adelaide or even the Hawks. ย But a return to Sturt in SANFL is on the cards.ย

I do hope we see Jack back on the MCG even if he gets just one more opportunity. He is a great clubman.

If finishing in the 8 becomesย a mathematical impossibility late in the season it would be nice to give him a gameย or 2 prior to being delisted.

Very strange times they were.ย

Why was Trengove played weekly for almost 2 years with a severe injury, that we could all see.ย

He never had pace, but it was just so wrong to see a young kid flogged each week when he was "lame"

Dark Days. I just wish Jack himself had said " i can't keep doing this" at an earlier point.ย

Was it Political? (as he had been named Captain, another ridiculous decision...?)

he got 2 games last year, which is 2 more than i thought he would.ย

His career was over in 2013.ย

You do not keep racing an injured horse...

Craziness really. Even posters on here could see he was crocked.

He really has very right to ask some tough questions of the club.

And let's not forget the farcical trade to Richmond which fell through due to the medical.

Don't worry about that, 17 clubs passed on him a few years ago, when he was offered up as a trade after a few years with the Tigers, at a fraction of what he will get next year and is currently getting.

Spoke to JT at the family day this week and he is such a nice guy, he really deserves some luck and a chance to show if he can still play footy at the top level.

The early Captaincy of he and Grimes was poison to their careers.

It is just a perfect way to see how badly the whole club was run.ย

I never even thought Trengove was a number 2 pick for his draft year, because of his lack of pace. But that is not Jack's fault.ย

His last solid game for us was the Sling Tackle Farce in 2011.ย

Comparing Grimes at this time last year and Trengove now, I would have said it would have been more likely that Grimes (a) would get another year and (b) if no new contract, a new club would be interested. Given Grimes got nothing, cannot see Trengove playing another AFL game, unless our midfield get hits with an abundance of injuries in the latter half of this season.

Sentiment has to be taken out of decisions these days given the league and clubs are multi-million dollar businesses. In saying that, there really is no logic as to why Trengove was given a 1-year deal this year. Sounds like a good bloke and he's been through a bit, but you can't hand out contracts just for that.

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
