Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MITCHELL KING

Hey, this guy wasn't a top 20 pick. We have had some pretty good results with 30+ picks, and IF he isn't a star no huge deal. IF he is well great.

That said given the limitations of highlight reels he looks at very least, promising.

Fair suggestion that the short-medium term ruck is sorted. If gawn stays injury free clearly #1. Spencer, frost, pedo will all be the main back ups and the two kings building in the VFL.

Fairly sorted ruck stocks meaning rookie draft would look for a mid/small forward.

I'd go for a pure wingman. I think it's the position we lack the most. We can flood the forward line with spare inside mids.

Problem with this, imho, is that it will be hardest to find this in the rookie draft because the skill levels will be relatively low. Some sort of speed I agree, which is most likely to be found through the misfiled forward half.

I agree though players like ANB and Oliver etc will spend time through the middle.

Whilst I know you dislike the guy, Jack Watts will probably start on the wing for us this year.

Don't mind this pick. Must say i was a little surprise as i had him down for a rookie spot. But thats based on his lack of exposure. The games i saw this year i couldn't take my eye off Oliver (you beauty) but there was one guy who was just giving him platters and that was Mitch King. Remember the Jamar/Moloney combo? Well thats exactly how it was. The combination and teamwork these two had was quite impressive.

3 things that probably stood out for me about King was that he was aggressive, His 2nd efforts for such a big guys is first rate in my opinion in that he will lay a handball off and sprint to put a block on or go and lay a tackle afterwards. And 3rd was his workrate. Couple of times i noticed he would push hard into defence and intercept any forward entries coming in. Something our ruckman have lacked to do over the years.

He is pretty raw but.. but fits the Roos model of being a competitor. Needs to polish up on his kicking but that can be easily done. A bit more weight on and don't be surprised if he sneaks in a game or two in his 2nd year of AFL footy because of his competitive streak and work rate. Not in the Max King category where he is skinny as a rake and a raw project thats going to atleast take 6 years.

Lets not forget the work Greg Stafford has done this year to turn Max Gawn around so i expect Mitch King to develop into a good ruckman over the years.

Did we have to use pic 3 on him or could we have got him at our next pic then we could have got Francis at 3?

But would not have got the Weed

Attributes not typical of Demon players over the past decade, 2015 excepted. A big sign of progress.

That pic was actually early last year. When he came to the club he was Cale Morton skinny.. all bones so full credit to the hard work in the gym as its obviously starting to pay off.

Yeah MAX King (that will get annoying) is an ok size, although that photo is generous. Where he lacks is endurance.

How does Mitch go in this regard? Do we know a 3km time?

The other problem for Max King is he's always last in the running because everyone we have now is fit! 3 young talls should help fill in the gaps between 2nd last and Max King. Then they can all work together to build size and endurance.

According to my distant recollection of the ancient tale, a saviour of some fame had three Kings come to adore him.

Jesse now has two: do we need to draft a third?

This is getting us ready maybe for season 2021.

Such maybe foresight.

I just wouldn't bother. I wish him all the best but so much investment for a maybe 6 years from now?

This! Not only that we have 3 ruckman on the list that have done ACL can't understand it we already took a kid in the first round with injury problems anyway all the best to the young lads Edited by Middymalt

I really don't understand this selection given that players such as Zac Smith and Daniel Currie were traded for picks around this point in the draft.

Instead of taking a second project ruckman we could have added some experienced cover for much the same outlay.

We've now got Mitch King and Jayden Hunt clogging up the senior list as players who should be on the rookie list.

With two M King ruckmen on the list, we're going to have massive identity problems on Demonland. (It may not be a genuine on field problem as I'm not sure I can see how both will ever get a game together). Given England has differentiated between the two Queens Elizabeth by designating the first as EIR and the other as EIIR, perhaps we should start using MIKing and MIIKing. What could possibly go wrong?

My thoughts exactly. Zac Smith cost 2 x 3rd rounders. Daniel Currie 1 x 3rd rounder. Gorringe was there for nothing.

I don't understand this pick.

We must think he has the potential to develop into a real ruckman and not just an emergency back-up. We can still take a mature rookie for that purpose.

If he develops into a real ruckman (1st ruck in the team) in 5-6 years time, and Gawn is still our no.1 ruckman, he'll look elsewhere for a 1st ruck gig. Smith, Currie or Gorringe were the perfect solution for our list.

There was one reason these players weren't playing senior footy and were traded out for chips. They're not much chop.

I applaud the club for picking a player that they think they can develop into a good player in time rather than settling for 3rd rate options.

I disagree that the players listed are 3rd rate options, and are superior to Spencer who's still on our list. You would have said the same thing about Jonathon Ceglar 2 years ago.

Spencer is our experienced cover, if it happens that both Gawn and Spencer are injured, Pedo and Frost will play the ruck position, our list is in the perfect spot to develop a young ruckman and put 3-5 years into one and see how it turns out.

Arguing to bring in Zac Smith or Currie who wont play #1 ruck and would rarely play second ruck ahead of Spencer, but claiming Jayden Hunt, who has had a horror run with injuries and showed potential when he has been on the track late last year to have that speed and finishing ability we need, is clogging up a spot is silly.

My thoughts exactly. Zac Smith cost 2 x 3rd rounders. Daniel Currie 1 x 3rd rounder. Gorringe was there for nothing.

Correct, but they were going to compete for the number 1 ruck spot, which they wont do at Melbourne, Spencer is ahead of them and he is well below Gawn.

Gorringe is poop

If he develops into a real ruckman (1st ruck in the team) in 5-6 years time, and Gawn is still our no.1 ruckman, he'll look elsewhere for a 1st ruck gig. Smith, Currie or Gorringe were the perfect solution for our list.

That is not necissarily correct, whilst it is true players do look elsewhere, he may also be up for the fight and push himself into the number one spot, but at the very worst if he is still on the list in 5-6 years time he wikll have surpassed Spencer and therefore be providing the depth.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
