Callum Twomey and Brenton Sanderson's Mock Draft Podcast

To be honest, the thought of taking Weideman at 3 and the best available mid at 7 wouldn't bother me.

I don't know which would have me more pleased, a Parish/Curnow double or a Weideman/Oliver double.

As a pure forward i'd have Weideman over Curnow, as Weideman is physical and more of a natural FF (allowing Hogan to roam as he pleases as CHF). As a pure mid, i'd have Oliver just about= to Parish. I'd say Parish has better skill, versatility and more runs on the board, but Oliver is a physical beast with a thirst for contact.

My mate who works at the Falcons isn't sure of Curnow as much as others, says there are plenty of other better mids before him in the competition that he saw first hand or have been informed about from others in the industry and he just isn't sold on him as much as them. Says Parish is an absolute gun though, which i have posted about on here already, a few times.

Take all of this as you will.

Was just listening to the podcast on the AFL website. I switched it off after Carlton's 2nd pick but it went...

1. Weietering - Carl

2. Schache - Bris

3. Mills - Syd

4. Parish - Melb

5. Hopper - GWS

6. Kennedy - GWS

7. Francis - Ess

8. Weideman - Ess

9. Oliver - GCS

10. Curnow - Melb

11. Milera - Carl

Curnow and Parish would be an amazing result for us.

Thoughts?

Please excuse my ignorance....

but i thought we had pick 3 and 7?? why did they give us pick 10 on the podcast?

The academy bids slot in at the point in the draft where someone bids on them. All other bids are shuffled downwards. It has a slight effect on the price of later academy picks, but no real impact on the actual picks.

I don't know why they did a needs based draft.

They should've just drafted their best players with some consideration to types that clubs usually prefer. In fact if they had gone head to head with a pick each for the top 20 that would've been better.

Twomey's phantom draft will be interesting. Right now it sounds like he's struggling for info big time.

I think the main reason that he's struggling is that our first pick will shape the draft, and it seems as though we aren't leaking. It's a nice change.

I don't doubt that.

But I doubt we'd be drafting him as a mid.

If Prendergast payed attention to forums we wouldn't have gone into the hole we did

This forum almost unanimously had Scully *Trengove and Morabito as 1,2,3...be thankful we got something big in return for Scully (and Phil) and avoided Morabito's unfortunate luck. I thought he was paying attention...

*still hope

we need at least one tall forward so if its going to be used on our number 3 pick then Weiderman is the most likely candidate, if its our number 10 then probably McKay.

That would mean our number 3 used on a mid would possibly be parish or Curnow, or taking a mid with our no 10 pick would be Curnow or oliver.

I would be happy with any of those combinations.

Yes we need forwards...but a draftee fwd wont impact for 2-3 years likely.. Other options can present or already exist in that time frame.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
