Can't get Fox Footy!

Us country people are culturally disadvantaged big time.

That was the win against Sydney?

I remember booing Gerard Healey.

Watching it now. Steven Stretch would have had no problems fitting in todays game. Absolutely classy with ball in hands and his kicking was fantastic by the looks of it.

Stretch was ALL class and a great goer ( no shirker )

This is why many are animated about the hopes for Billy

In 60 years of being a supporter/member I can't remember a better three weeks than those we had in 1987. The win at Footscray followed by the two finals against North and Sydney were unforgettable. As for Steven Stretch - he certainly had great skills and was the classic outside player that we could do with right now. However, in the Craig Bradley mould I think he may have slept with the light on.

Interesting. Agree in general about the cultural disadvantages but we can get Fox Footy. Pay a fortune for it but it's my only lifeline (local free to air stations regard AFL with contempt).

Jimmy wearing no. 37

Must say he showed a lack of discipline on a number of occasions in this game

Makes interesting viewing when you consider what was about to happen with Gary Buckenara

Melbourne were strong, skilled, determined and played for each other

That was a very exciting time

Exciting times indeed 'Froggy' ...... and what fills me with anticipation is that I can see it building again now. I know I'm just a silly and optimistic old fart who's been besotted by this footy club for 60+ years, but I have a gut feel that we could be something special in the next 3 to 5 years, for exactly the reasons in the bolded sentence above.

Nah, you're right Deeoldfart. I've got the same gut feeling. The next few years are going to be an exciting period for the club and I think it will be your unheralded players who will step up - Stretch, Neal - Bullen, Harmes.

I was hoping they played these matches on Fox Footy around the time Robbie passed away, so its good to see it on the air finally.

There´s some good Robbie footage on YouTube but nowhere near enough full Melbourne matches from that period, just games from the 90´s. Hope someone uploads it soon.

On a side note, does anyone know why there are no Garry Lyon highlights videos on YT? All I can find is ``Garry Lyon kicks an absolute belter´´ which is a decent torp goal, but the rest is either him hosting that AFL kids show, the training videos hosted by him and Matthew Lloyd or the large amount of absolute garbage clips from The Footy Show. There´s plenty of compilations of Jakovich (amazing), Ox, etc. thought theyd at least have a video of him booting 10 against the bulldogs.

Was at both finals. The best few weeks of football I have ever seen from the Dees.

We had massive crowds too. Something to look forward to, when we finally get our act together.

Funny though, I never thought of Stretch as a shirker. I try to recall anything that was soft, and cant. I thought he was a brilliant player.

Speaking of FOX Footy. Wouldn't be surprised to see Optus make a big play for the AFL broadcast rights during the next deal negotiations. They've just taken the EPL from FOX, who are already being pilloried by Netflix on the drama/comedy front.

Sat behind the city end goals that day about four rows back from the Sydney cheer squad (all ten of them). Nine of them were silent but the really, really camp guy in the red and while leg warmers kept chanting 'bring on Hawthorn *clap clap clap*' everytime we kicked a goal. I'm not a compassionate person, but I felt sorry for that mincing, mixedup, misfit that day. I reckoned he'd made as big a fool of himself the week before when Hawthorn drubbed them by 99 points (IIRC), and here he was doing it all again looking just as stupid. And the really sad part was he was too stupid to know just how stupid he was was even as the good humoured (and out numbering him 5000 - 1) crowd met his idiocy with laughter and thrown harmless objects like lollie wrappers.

Ahhh, good times.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
