Prestia is contracted.

We arent giving up top pick.

Until either Dion or either club says otherwise its all a dream (next year is a different story).

HB: Salem ####### ????

C: Stretch Jones ??????

HF: Brayshaw ###### Vanders

Foll: Gawn Vince Viney

Int: Tyson

Possibles: Petracca, ANB, Harmes, Newton, Trengove, Michie

How the 2nd year kids will go will be interesting. I think Brayshaw will have no troubles backing up. Petracca should find a spot as well but it's early days for him. I really like what Stretch brings as an outside runner and with a preseason in the gym I think he'll be every chance to lock down a wing spot. ANB and Harmes might have to take a step back but I'm sure both will be working hard for a spot.

As for trade ins:

Melksham: I heard his manager talking about having a spot for him at half back/wing and I'd imagine he'd get a good run there if that's the plan.

Bugg: He could take a spot in the back 6 or could take the tagging role. I think he'd be good at half back when a team has a dangerous high half forward/midfield type player like a Boomer Harvey. I'm not sure he's automatic best 22 but he wouldn't be far off as Grimes or Mitch White would be his main competition for a half back spot and he's a chance as a tagger.

Ben Kennedy: He'll be competing for spots in the half forward mix if we get him and likely rotating up to a wing.

There's definitely a big gap for another star midfielder as well but there's not much point entertaining that right now.

"Go Home" syndrome from the Assumption College boy

So you are saying hes a possibility but put him in your starting midfield like hes signed, sealed and delivered to us.

I want to strangle you.

Never mind.

Why isn't Cyril Rioli in there? He's a really great player who would go really well in our midfield, so would surely jump at the opportunity to really stand out...

Never mind.

Why isn't...

Anyway, is my point made? Who the hell stars a 'status as we enter trade week' thread by including players who are at best unlikely?

Wacky. Can we have a rule about closing new threads that instantly contradict their own stated reason for existing?

Good position to be in though. :P Dion at least.

At the risk of this thread devolving into more of a farce than it already is.......surely Jack Watts gets a look-in for the wing? (His best position, IMO. Would love to see him delivering the footy I50.)

I believe Salem will be a mid in 2016 and will in the not to distant future be our best mid, he's got some serious attributes to be both good on the inside but genuinely dangerous in space as well, reminds me a lot of Luke Hodge

Salem could be the biggest midfield story of next year if he makes the transition there. He is a gun.

Interesting if the rumoured trades for us eventuate.

Roos has declared he likes the big bodied mid like Vandenberg, yet we could be adding Prestia and Kennedy to Viney and Jones, who are all small and Melksham and Bugg who are not tall either. Salem is also being spoken about as a mid and when you throw in Kent, ANB and Stretch, we would have the smallest midfield in the AFL.

Have we changed direction or is it just a big coincidence?

Tyson 187cm

Brayshaw 187cm

Salem 185cm

Trengove 185cm

Vandenberg 188cm

Petracca 186cm

Vince 187cm

Michie 185cm

Melksham 185cm

Harmes 185cm

Nothing wrong with our midfield height at all. Infact i would say these guys are all solid mature bodies that Roos particular likes.

Go look at Hawthorn and they aren't a big midfield either.

Aside from Josh Kennedy, the Swans didn't have a tall midfield. Jack, Hannebery, McVeigh, McGlynn are all of similar height to our mids. Some people are overreacting to Freo's tall midfield. But even they went shorter this year by adding Neale to the starting onballers, and relegating Barlow up forward.

He has Hawthorn skills- would not look out of place in that line up

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
