2015 Player Review - # 17 Sam Frost

Featured Replies

I just hope that this guy and Oscar are the solutions for our backline! I guess the delisting of Fitzy suggest that is the way the FD are thinking. Let's hope that 2016 proves them right!

Looking forward to Frosty's return. Think he might grow into a very decent ,level headed and able player.

Was impressive pre season, and would be a great 3rd defender who can run off the opposition resting ruckman, or even swing forward.

With no more sub rule, he is the perfect player to benefit from this and be our extra tall

I didn't see too much other than raw athleticism from Frosty, but that is mainly due to the fact that when he played, he was played out of position.

I think he needs to go back and try and become Frawley circa 2010/11, an athletic monster who can shut down one of the opponents best forwards with strength and speed, and provide a bit of dash when appropriate, keep it simple.

I thought he was super impressive when he played at CHB and ran through the middle, looking forward to him teaming back up with TMAC for 2016

Won't be long before people call for his existing

OK I'll call for his existing......whatever that means....

Frost looks like he could turn out pretty well. Needs a bit of polish to go with the freakish strength, speed and athleticism, but he's certainly on the right track.

Won't be long before people call for his existing

but he does

Melbourne football club is the oldest football club in the world and I reckon Frost had the worst ever toe injury in our history.

Was good, until his foot fell off.

Not sure what the logic was in playing a key defensive prospect as a forward / ruck, but I'm yet to be convinced that he is a long term key defender at AFL player. I'm not saying he isn't, just that we haven't seen the evidence yet.

Of course, if they can't get his toe right, it doesn't matter what positions they see him in.

I was impressed with his pace and aggressiveness at the contest early. Would like to see him get a full year under development of Roos, who seems to be very good with key backs. I think the balance is right with he and Oscar fighting for a key back spot. and both can go forward as well. His brother is very good. can't see why we couldn't develop him to be just as effective.

4-6 I hear

A toe kept Sandilands out for a season or more did it not? They would have to be a hard injury for a footballer to get over given the pounding their feet take.

It that for his toenail?

CHB next year. One of Dunn or Garland to go forward depending on match ups.

B: Jetta, Frost, Sam Frost's Left Big Toe

HB: Salem, McDonald, Harlett

I was very impressed with Sam in the pre season game against the Dockers. He is very fast and will develop nicely I believe. Look forward to seeing him action again.

Talking to Pederson on the train after the GWS game, he said Frost was ready to go that week but the club decided to start again next season and not play him.

I'd like to have a chat to Pederson. Seems a really nice guy.

Frost might be the backman that goes into the ruck in a pinch if we can't land another taller forward.

That's insightful.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
