Aggressive trading

You should use the Ignore feature in your Preferences. I have only one poster - who happens to have posted multiple times in this thread - on Ignore. The feature works a treat as I only feel about 5% dumber.

Starts with O ends with lisik? Apart from following the MFC we all seem to have something in common.

For what it's worth Greg Denham just said on SEN that Watts, Toumpas and Dawes are all on the trade table.

Didn't mention Dunn.

The same Greg Denham who said that Essendon are asking for our 1st rd pick + Howe for Melksham. Clearly he reads fan forums like this and Big Footy, and is stupid enough to repeat sarcastic trade suggestions. Denham is a [censored], with no journalistic credentials.

Except for Martin, no Melb player has been successful at their new club and are usually de-listed not long after.

Frawley has struggled to learn the Hawk's system.

Sylvia trade went up in smoke.

Now, reports are that clubs have gone cold on Howe and there is no interest in Watts.

It seems clubs are 'gun shy' of taking MFC, pre Roos players.

Has Roos made too much of the 'past mental scars' and the footy world believes him?

The lack of takers for our players doesn't bode well for getting anything/anyone decent in return.

Clubs will always back their system to get the best out of players. Frawley and Sylvia were free agents, so minimal cost. Other clubs are just being realistic with their assessment of the worth of players like Howe and Watts. Howe will have suitors, but not at his manager's asking price.

Rivers?

If Watts goes after him saying he really wants to stay and prove himself ill be so heartbroken

#standbywatts

He really wants to stay, but his efforts don't always say that. Let's face reality. he doesn't want it badly enough. and too many years have passed now to hang onto that hope.

Bwaaa ha haa ha ha ha.

Oh Denham, you spud.

Then again, if Essendon really were asking for a deal like that, it would require opening a whole new kind of drug investigation.

I wouldn't be unhappy if all of them were traded, depending on what we would get in return.

Dunn would be replaced in the 22 by Frost straight away.

Frost is hopefully replacing Garland....straight away regardless.

Don't think anyone has anything in common with you mate....

Good god man. There's a difference between aggressive trading and mind numbingly stupid trading.

Enlighten me as to what you consider an aggresive trade? That said I didn't even specify what trading Salem for would be aggresive so not sure how Salem for x could even be stupid when what we get in return isn't even stated.

Teams trade good players every year so not sure what rock your living under if you think it doesn't happen.

I couldn't possibly confirm or deny. But was Olisik posting in this thread? I didn't notice.

The idea is that we want to bring in talent to supplement the small amount of talent we already possess.

It's laughable that you're having a coronary over the idea of trading a B grade 27 year old defender, but are happy to throw up one of our most promising 20 year olds up for trade.

Would we trade Salem for Dangerfield or Fyfe? Yes of course. But realistically that deal will never come off.

We are more likely to do a good deal by trading someone like Watts or Toumpas and getting another promising youngster into the fold.

Think man!

So, are we just throwing up names for the sake of looking like we are doing something useful, or is there actually more than a miniscule chance that we can land someone who can lead this club out of the mire?

Because Melksham is far closer to the Newton / Michie / Dawes / Lumumba level of recruit, than the level of Dangerfield or O'Meara .

If Goodwin, McCartney & co are as good as everyone says they are, shouldn't they be able to realise the potential of a Toumpas or a Watts, rather than talking up their value to another club?

By all means move on Watts, Toumpas & co as part of a trade for a big fish, but what's the point of moving on a player of Watts' ability for pick 43 in a weak draft or a nobody like Melksham?

I would be very surprised if they were thinking of including 'valuable yet expendable assets' in a trade for Melksham.

'Valuable yet expendable assets' this summer would include: ND6, Watts, Howe, and ND27.

Toumpas' value would be very low - he simply hasn't looked comfortable in the AFL outside of a few games. I would re-sign him as he would have little value to salvage in a trade - salvaging something out of his career would be more valuable than ND60 or a deep rotation mid like Melksham.

There is aggressive trading, and then there is trading one of the most promising players on the list who fills a role that no one else can currently fill. His footskills of half back make us look a much better team when is fit and playing.

You can't trade one Salem for two Salem's, so he is an untouchable.

more like if Roosy can't fix them, no one can.

so he has looked comfortable ? just to green yet. this means he has something, or would flounder, our job is to get that something stronger.

Rivers?

Thought him to be 'serviceable' rather than 'successful'.

Others may have a different view.

I also put Petterd and Miller in the 'serviceable' category.

Thompson & Jolly were 10+ years ago.

I was referring to players supposedly 'scarred' from the Bailey/Neeld years that other clubs have given short shrift after taking them or have no interest in now.

So it will be difficult to offload players.

On a related note...I was glad to see Dawes as one of the players Denham mentioned as up for trade.

Dawes may need to brush up his law studies for when his contract expires next year.

Would love to trade Ethan Trembly to bomberblitz, would fit right in

MELBOURNE has delisted tough-nut Aidan Riley, utility Rohan Bail, midfielder Jordie McKenzie and tall Jack Fitzpatrick from its 2015 list.

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2015-09-18/melbourne-delists-four-players

Some of those descriptions are helpful. "Tough-nut" means unskilled; "utility" means he didn't have a position to call his own; "tall" means he wasn't actually good enough to be called a ruckman or a key position player.

Bailey/Neeld era, hmmn, i don't buy totally... the problems were established well before bailey came anywhere near us, as shown by our inability to develop recruits & to maintain the fierce desire to win, & to work hard,,, the fact that our good senior players weren't elite, they were to lazy to become elite.

we are a lazy club, & this is our default position we continually keep falling back down to, after we've been sorted out... accept-ion ; the in-between times, > from 'checker' to 'smithy', were an imported ethos.

also from Barassi > Northey times... you see, other than these 2 era's. we have been truly 'mellow yellow', in all other years & era, (default).

since those coaches/admins, we just cruised back down to a comfortable, not to painful existence. & this is the level our most talented types seem to tread water at... your TJohnstone's, Yze's, Greens, Whites, Robbo's, all very cosy types, & none would ruffle your hair.

we have to get back to the Whelans, Ox's, Neitz's & even more aggro. your Pikes, & such.

and off field aggro, as well... as this thread hopefully echo's.

All played in a grand final........Can't have been too cosy.......I don't remember them putting in short steps when it was their turn

Howe and 4th round pick to Fremantle for Tabenar and Fremantles 3rd round pick.

2nd round pick to Gold Coast for Bennell and Gold Coast 3rd round pick

Then try to get some free agents.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
