Amused by some and their change in original stance now that Melksham will be wearing red & blue.

Predictable.

I didn't want Melksham, I have never rated him all that highly but he's here now so of course people like myself are going to (at least try to) support him.

Great pick up Dees.

Pick 25 (30 after academy picks) is cheap for a 24 yo - 115 gamer.

I think people are over rating draft picks. Not even the #1 pick is a certainty.

Jake will be in our top dozen players every week and will push our fringe players. M Jones, Michie, Grimes, Newton etc

He also has a little mongrel about him. Extra points for decking Jackson.

Would you prefer constant whinging about it?

Melskshams the kind of bloke you despise if hes the opposition, but worship if hes in your jumper. Anyone with aggro is a welcome addition, and I hope he puts his boxing skills to good use against Howe on queens birthday.

Theresa a future for Jackson in Film !!

He chose our club when most others wouldnt. (regardless of money/contract etc)

Get around him.

Welcome Jake.

so how many suitors did he have ? remind me

Melbourne or the bush....

Obvious to say that when he's at his best and playing with confidence, he's a valuable player.

Clearly Goodwin and McCartney believe that he can get back to playing like that with some simplified roles and a new environment.

Melksham isn't like Michie, Newton or Riley. He's a previous top 10 pick who's played a whole season (2013), in a manner that validated why he was a top 10 draft pick.

Let's get him playing at that level again.

Welcome Jake.

Irrelevant as far as im concerned.

Now wearing our jumper so i will support him till his performances say otherwise.

All a bit *meh, but im prepared to give him a shot before pouring on the hate.

As an aggro type (apparently), anyone in the current playing group he's rubbed up the wrong way?

Would you prefer constant whinging about it?

If there was none of that, it wouldn't amount to the amusement.

It referred the point of choosing clubs. We were his only suitor . He by all accounts wanted out. His choice was...US...or stay.

I think its relevant. No one else was making a bee line to windy hill for him, let alone throwing a 4 year contract under his nose

I think we showed our cards way too early and gave the drug cartel too much negotiating power. We should have just weasled him into the PSD if anything. In saying that if the milkman is a reg starting 22 and this draft is as weak as everyone says, then 25 is worth noting anyway.

I know a few Essendon fans who disagree.

So you admit he had a choice. My point exactly. We are apparently throwing piles of cash up in the air to attract anyone who wants to grab it, and everyone else so far has said "no thanks". Here is a bloke who didnt say that.

I repeat.....

Welcome Jake

you do know what the word suitor means I take it.. there was one

It's been reported that the club has ordered Jake to live in Jacks spare room as a mentor and they are to spend 3 nights a week doing some wrestling sessions in the basement as part of the 400k over 4 year deal.

Welcome to our coaching staff Jakey, let's hope the ferocity rubs off

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

  • PREGAME: Sydney

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
