I'm surprised Demonlanders are surprised that we have to overpay players to get them to move. That's how it'll work for a few years.

I'm not surprised that we are overpaying... just that the player we choose to overpay is Melksham. Madness.

I wouldn't take Melksham. He's a turnover merchant, but some of the posting on this thread has been a little hyperbolic.

If true, we'd be going after him purely as depth. Whilst I don't agree with his recruitment specifically (for the aforementioned reason), unfortunately what it says to me, is that we are still struggling to attract even B graders to the club. This means we're having to settle for somply replacing the D graders (Bail, M Jones, Terlich etc), with ordinary C graders.

Melksham probably has a higher ceiling than the blokes we'll get rid of, that's the only reason we're going after him. He's a slight upgrade on them. I just hoped we'd have a slightly higher standing now in the eyes of opposition players. Apparently not.

You don't give depth 4 years. I'm not overly inspired by him and the assertion by Roos at the B&F that we want a team of competitors doesn't seem to fit with him, BUT if we do get him we have to stop this negativity. If he becomes a Demon then support him and back him in.

Goodwin obviously would know enough about him so he may see something we don't. Really hoping there's a bigger target in sight.

The WADA thing doesn't bother me. I think they'll all get off.

You do if you have to overpay someone. Surely, you don't see him ahead of Jones, Vince, Viney, Brayshaw, Tyson and Vanders? He's being brought in to 'bolster' our depth.

It's seriously embarrassing. Melksham is the sort of player you recruit on the last day of trade week when you've been jilted at the altar by others. He's not a coup half way through September.

We will after next season.

If we can keep the list healthy, serious inroads can be made in 2016. I'm not tipping final 8 but if we can give it a nudge with our list profile, there is going to be a lot more interest to join the ride in 2017.

As it stands though, outsiders need to be convinced and 2015 didn't provide enough in the eyes of many.

Certainly not the ones bolded, I think their different players but probably similar level to Vanders for me.

His position on this is so ridiculous that there isn't any going back so he has to stick to things like "Watts for Melksham". It's silly, I know.

How is my position so ridiculous.....I have mentioned that he is rated by certain Essendon supporters I know.

I have agreed with STMJ who suggests if we can get him with a third rounder or for little cost that he would be a good depth player, who may need a change of clubs to get the best out of himself.

I don't rate Jack Watts as a player and I don't think other clubs will take Watts because he lacks the football fundamentals, he doesn't compete hard enough. His value is a third rounder or Jake Melksham....

It's my opinion...you don't know how Melksham will go for us if we draft him, but If he does succeed I will be one to remind you of all the negative crap you have spoken about him, grow up or fcuk off.

If he comes to the dees i'll support him. It's how i roll

As will I. The hysteria has probably been a bit over the top. He was looking the goods as a 21 year old then, the drug scandal happened. Hard for any young player to develop in the toxic environment of Essendope. Perhaps a change of scenery will see him blossom.

Jake Melksham. 4 years at 400 for Jake [censored] Melksham.

This club is broken. Goodwin is going to be a bad move, I can feel it in my stomach. He's involvement with drugs inc. has never really sat right with me.

Jesse Effin Christ, shut up. :P So much negativity.

Well, we all get feelings in our stomach from time to time, but they're usually related to food (or a lack thereof), rather than coaching appointments.

Still, if it works for you ...

Maybe if the club was parading him like a star signing, but so far it's only unsubstantiated rumours of a minor move that improves our list in some way, even if only slight.

We could probably do without the drama.

Gotta say, I'm on the fence re Goodwin too.

Anything involved in the never ending scandal at the bombers bothers me.

Plus I hated him when he was at the Crows.

Prove me wrong with six premierships in a row, please!

I'm not a huge fan of coaches bringing in players from their old clubs.

I realise they have inside knowledge and so on, but I find it a bit lazy in a way.

We [censored] up. Why the [censored] do our coaches always feel the need to try saviour players carers from there old clubs.

Neeld brought Dawes

Neil Craig Bought Seller

Now Goodwin wants Melksham and Mcartney Hrovat.

Ffs

Ted Richards

Nick Davis

Rhyce Shaw

To name a few.

Yes, why would we want a coach to sidestep timely recruiting and scouting processes and instead attract a player they already know about. SHOCKING!

Pathetic.

Amazed at the hysteria in this thread. Veil of negativity.

And I'll take CIP's mail over Sam McClure's.

And? He isn't rated by most Bombers supporters either. And agreeing with STMJ is hardly surprising, we know you want to marry him. It's so lovely to see

And temper, temper HL. No need to get snarky.

I'm shaking in my boots at the prospect of him succeeding and you bringing up old posts. However will I get through the day? If he comes to Melbourne and goes on to have a good career then that's fantastic. What Melbourne fan wouldn't want to be proved wrong in that case? It's sad to see you get so excited about the prospect of proving someone wrong though. What a life you lead.

The FD under Roos has been so much better than the previous ones, they have my trust until they lose it.

Greg Denham just reported on SEN that the Bombers have asked for Melbourne's first pick & Howe for Melksham.

Oh dear.

You can only hope that with such a ridiculous request, the Dees and Dons don't get a deal done and he comes to Melbourne for nothing in the PSD.

Denham just said the Bummers want our first pick and Howe for Melksham.

Also said Watts ,Toumpas and Dawes are on the trade table

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.
