Got to hand it to the Hawks. I hate them with a passion but the club, the players, the whole outfit is professional and clinical from the President to the cleaners.

I can't believe Rioli got the Norm Smith medal. Mitchell or Frawley surely.

Frawley, Gibson and Lake were amazing, but atrocious kicking cost WCE dearly.

Three boring grand finals in a row. I watched it right through but ther were few contested highlights. Freo, Sydney and now WCE unable to match the Hawks at all come the big game.

With free agency totally stuffing up equalisation (watch more 8 year players at bottom clubs go to top 4 teams) what the **** is everyone going to do to try and catch Hawthorn?

Just shows how hard and ruthless the MFC have to recruit. If players cannot cut it they must be delisted.

Watching Chip win a flag was tough. He played in 3rd gear last year to preserve himself.

I would love to be in the position where we were hated just as much.

There's been a lot of hype all year about Nick Naitanui and I've always thought him to be a great athlete who is overrated as a footballer. He had no impact at all today - he had plenty of hit outs that were in the main sharked by the opposition but hardly got a touch otherwise.

I think in splitting Hawthorn of 2012-2015 with Brisbane of 2001-2004, I favour Brisbane for one reason - Brisbane won three flags at the G against Victorian sides. Hawthorn, in contrast, has won its three flags against interstate sides.

I think a clear trend has emerged regarding interstate sides - that home ground advantage is great for racking up home and away wins, finishing top 4, and winning home finals, but if you come up against a Victorian club in a grand final it means nothing. Sydney beat Hawthorn in 2012, but otherwise recent interstate clubs have struggled (West Coast 2015, Sydney 2014, Fremantle 2013, Port Adelaide 2007). West Coast and Sydney beat each other in 2005-2006, whilst Port beat Brisbane in 2004.

So I rate Brisbane's effort to win three flags in, essentially, away games each time as pipping Hawthorn's effort at beating interstate sides on their home ground three times. Somewhat fortuitous for the Hawks that the best sides except them in each of the three years weren't Victorian.

Did anyone just watch the NRL GF. What a wonderful contrast to the absolute dribble we saw yesterday. The drama, the epic hits and team-work under incredible pressure was so far in front of yesterday.

As much as I am not a fan of the NRL, it's a shame the Hawks and Eagles couldn't have turned on a game that had the excitement factor that was just seen in the NRL GF between the North Qld Cowboys and Brisbane Broncos.

The Cowboys were trailing by 4 points (a try) and right on full time (80th minute) they scored a try in the corner to bring the scores level. The ensuing place kick from the sideline was curving and looked to be heading through between the uprights, but just caught enough of the near post to force the ball back into the field of play and no score. This meant extra time (golden point). Cowboys had first use and kicked the ball towards there scoring end for the Broncos to take possession and attempt to work the play back to their half. Unfortunately, their player dropped the ball, knocking on and the Cowboys got the scrum feed which eventuated in them scoring a field goal and winning by a single point.

An unbelievable last few minutes!

The real Grand Final was definitely on 9 tonight.

I hate NRL but that put the AFL to shame. As long as the competition remains so lopsided in favour of the dominant teams, the league will remain a predictable and routine as it is now.

I'm an avid AFL follower living in Far Nth Qld for the last twenty years. I've never embraced Rugby League but in my opinion tonight's GF was way, way better than yesterday's game. Plus it had JT, the man is brilliant

Ive lived in Mackay for ten years, I've watched my fair share of league and played it. The first 79 minutes wasn't that exciting. The last minute try/missed conversion attempt/golden point was. Overall the game has nothing on the AFL.

Without the ending it had, it had nothing else.

It's a game that lacks tactics and skill. There's no imagination from the players. No one ever kicks on the 3rd or the 4th anymore and mixes it up. It's very predictable.

Just my thoughts.

I disagree that it was just the last few minutes that was exciting. I would have thought the fast start by the Broncos and the way the Cowboys fought back to take the lead in the opening 20 minutes... and then the waves of attack by the Cowboys for the last 20 minutes leading eventually to the leveler. Really there were only about 20 minutes that could have been considered lacklustre (and I've lived in Sydney since 1979, so I do know a little about the game).

It was one of the more enjoyable NRL games I've seen but mostly because it was so close.

There's no reason the AFL Grand Final couldn't be close, Hawthorn are beatable.

I was at the game last night. The atmosphere all night was incredible. The noise when the Cowboys crossed for a try after the final siren was the loudest i have ever heard at any event in my life.

In my opinion it is only a matter of a few years until we see a night AFL GF. I have been to about the same amount of GFs for both codes and as a lover of footy we are miles behind the NRL when it comes to Grand Final day. Chisel were awesome by the way.

Um, last year Rabbitohs v Bulldogs, this year Cowboys v Broncos and there's nothing that says about equalisation? Unless close games are your only measure of equality.

The difference is that the NRL hasn't wrecked the general level of its teams' competitiveness with ill-conceived and ill-delivered expansionist projects like GWS and the Suns.

I didn't get to see that game as I was out of the country, but that was a great game for a different reason... Souths beat the club I hate with a passion... Canterbury. I live in the Canterbury area, and their supporters [censored] me off like you would not believe.
