Featured Replies

6 - Viney - 12 tackles, 6 clearances, tried all day

5 - Cross - I was tempted to have him further down but he runs and shows leadership.

4 - Grimes - went hard when he came on. 22 touches, 3 clearances, 5 tackles. We need him.

3 Dunn - Seemed injured but still had a huge impact on us not being beaten by 100

2 - Salem - So classy off half back

1 - Gawn - Maxy couldnt take on Sandi in the contests so took him on all over the park. Good game from the big man.

6.Viney - thank god we have this kid bleeds red and blue went hard all day, was at the bottom of everything and one of our very few who can and will gut run

5.Cross - like Viney just works and wills himself through the pain barrier, I think he stays on as depth and a culture builder

4.Gawn - did really well against a very powerful ruck division

3.Salem - was really treading on egg shells and looked under done (and believe me it was warm there) but kept going and showed class by foot

2.Grimes - credit to you today Jack was one of our best performers from the time he came on

1.Dunn - wasn't great early and looked like he was going to be on the end of a belting but Dunny played with some heart and desperation throughout

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
