Has played 155 games since he debuted in 2003.

Surely his future at the club is over with Gawn and Spencer (and possibly King) preferred, so will he get a farewell game next week?

Does he deserve one?

On today's first half doesnt deserve a game

He tried but was no standout

I dont believe any player is above the team and he isnt in our best

Gawn is our number one ruck, and Spencer has smashed the door down, it's unfortunate but at the stage we're at we can't afford to be sentimental.

Why? Our season is over. If we were a chance at finals I would agree, but bringing him in for one game at the end of the year doesn't hurt us at all. Russian has been a tremendous servant of our club and it would be terrific to see him get one final game.

Forget about Spencil "Smashing doors down" I just want him tomorrow to smash a few Dockers into the twilight zone!!

Culture isn't just about earning games, it's also showing how senior one club players are treated.

His form before today has been very good, we're not in danger of missing finals, I would be voting he does play against GWS for a send off.

I'm not at all disputing the servant Russian has been, one of my favourite all time MFC players, but a large amount of our list are playing for their careers, and even a lot of the contracted players are trying to establish themselves, I don't reckon Spencer, Gawn or Hogan are going to be keen to give up a spot, Oscar Mcdonald might be an obvious one but I reckon it makes sense to give him the next couple of games to get a taste of AFL footy.

I hope that he does get a game but i'm just not sure how that's going to happen.

Playing for their careers? Establishing themselves? In the last game of the season?

Somehow don't think we'll be making decisions based on one game.

Dermott was talking about this exact subject saying that Hawthorn never gave farewell games.

Each game had to be earnt.

Breeds more desperation. I agree

My thought is that either resting Gawn or swapping him for Spencer would be the way to go. It won't hurt their development in the final day of the season and it means we can send the Russian out with one final game.

I could be wrong though mate and he may well not get a game at all. But I'm hoping he does.

Yes, but Hawthorn back there were playing finals every year.

If we were in the running for finals I would say no, but we are not.

Not as cut and dry as that...

- Last game of the season

- No chance of finals

- 1 club player

- Out of form team needing some changes

- Before today Jamar had very good form and had been emergency multiple times

It's not like we'd be picking someone who absolutely doesn't deserve it.

Is he able to play a full game of senior footy or is he done?

To get a game can he add to the team?

I think the Russian should have retired last year.

He is not mobile enough

I agree about his mobility, been saying it for a few years.

He's been emergency for a few weeks now, has been playing really well for Casey. He taps to advantage and kicks goals, two things that would be pretty handy for us.

We're not discussing his chances of playing on next year, we're saying he was obviously already close to selection and imagine the impact of seeing a one club player go out on a high for guys like Hogan, Brayshaw etc who are just starting out.

players are either unsure if the club will keep them on, or already been tapped on the shoulder and want to impress opposition recruiters or are trying to establish a spot in the best 22 and one strong game before the end of the year could provide a platform of momentum, a dead rubber in terms of the club as a whole, but not in terms of individuals.

going to be significant list changes again, that said I do hope he gets a game, I just don't see anyone being keen to sit it out to make it happen.

Play him if he has the stamina. But i hate to see players get a game when they are actually a burden the team has to carry.

Why would we care more about players wanting to impress other clubs than one of our own retiring?

12 years ?

1 good one. A couple ok and the rest pretty ordinary. Hardly a retiring legend

If he gets a game next week it will be a pretty clear sign he's not getting a contract the week after

He hasn't played for most of the year despite being in decent form. I think that's enough of a sign he won't be playing here next year.

Happy for him to choose. The players should rally around him and he can leave it all out there.

If he wants to play Casey finals then leave him there, if he wants a farewell game then he comes in and Spencer might give more at Casey anyway.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
