Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...

You've always been happier with that approach and it certainly makes life simpler. But your record on these matters is poor.

Each to their own. My view is that now the foundation is in place we should implement Goodwin immediately. In a sense Roos is a lame duck and if Goodwin is there for 3 years post 2016 he should be calling the shots.

Surely he would be deciding game plans and player movements. It makes no sense for Roos to be in charge.

Yeah but who invented the back door?

Cue Benny Hill theme.

my money says some greek dude about 3,000 or so years ago

Paul Roos a lame duck?

Gimme a break.

Watch last night's game again. These kids still need to learn more of the defensive side of the game, otherwise the club will never challenge past week one of September.

Roos has a 3rd year as Senior Coach. Goodwin continues to grow into the role.

Paul Roos a lame duck. I will tell him that next time i see him walking his dog :)

If he hands over a year early he can hand back the $1.5 mill for 2016 as well.

Stick to the plan, I say.

We have a contract with Roos which runs out at the end of next year. The succession plan allows him to work in injunction with Goodwin. I think that's working. There's no need to change that at all.

This is what was promised - this is what he experienced with Longmire and got the MFC to emulate.

To abandon the plan now doesn't seem sensible nor something that Jackson would entertain.

Goodwin gets to own a bit more and Roos will pick up the flack still.

What a great introduction to 2017 and his first year as head coach of the MFC.

He'll hand over the reins, but still be in the front seat. Think of it as $1.5m spent by the AFL to keep a healthy 18-team competition (as that's basically what it is).

I realise that that's quite an indictment on the club, but it's the reality of where we were at.

I think this is something people underestimate. It isn’t some misguided force-out scenario like what happened at Collingwood; this is a planned, structured transition orchestrated by someone who has done exactly this in the past—to premiership winning effect no less.

If we hand to Goodwin fully now and don't improve out of sight we will be hounded by the media. In 2017 when we are 4 and 8 at round 12 media pressure could result in a turnover of coaches again.

Roos status as no.1 in 2016 takes all the pressure off Goodwin as he finds his feat.

But more importantly, it gives the footy dept. an extra 12 months stability to turn over the list, develop the kids, rebuild the culture etc. before the preformed becomes Goodwins responsibility.

If we ate a bit flat in 2016, Roos takes the heat plus we get to have a 4th list turn over under the same footy department before Goodwin gets a couple of years to build a premiership side.

Replacing him earlier than planned just gets rid of all the time that we need to get better that we bought ourselves with the succession plan.

If anything, I'd like Roos to sign for a4th year, as a "Director of Coaching" or "Youth Development Coach" or "Player Welfare Coach" or "Culture/Leadership Director" or similar and hang around to provide guidance, mentoring and keep supporting the leadership group but keeping out of Goodwins way, to further ease the transition.

Well, some will say he would get in Goodwin's way here, but he headed up the academy at Sydney and didn't seem to step on Longmire's toes there. No reason why it couldn't work again. I agree with this idea. I want him around for a 4th year.

I think Roos is doing a good job with that one (but, of course, only time will really tell)

Paul's the mouthpiece next year I would think Simon would have alot more on his plate next season, Roos has been great for media exposure eg afl 360 and IMO has been worth every cent, we should've really won 9 games this year and that's a pass considering the footy that was dished up only a couple of seasons ago

Wait, so how many games we "should've really won" is what we base our season on now?

I think this is what BM was hired to do.

Roos's persona in the Media (Burgo included) is exactly what i would like from a senior coach considered and thoughtful. Occasionally you see his passion but as long as he is able to keep the team motivated to keep on pushing themselves then he is doing a fine job. The boys that are driving this teams improvement have been on display all year and the effort is evident compared to recent years. If you want instant success you are dreaming! We are coming from a long way back!

so roos should punch more walls and smash more phones

I wonder if this transition will see Macca move to the coaches box rather than the bench next year?

The off season for us is a few weeks old and we're already getting rubbish like this:

Good grief this off season is going to be long...
