If I was Melbourne I'd pull the offer and tell him to go. No time for this sort of BS.

Thanks mate. Sounds as though someone like Watts can be had... for the right price. Not surprising really.

I think that's basically it, if a trade comes along that will better the list, he's gone.

And that's the way it should be. I've always been a Watts fan, even though I can readily admit he has plenty of shortcomings, but we are in a position where we need to continue to build the list. If he can be traded for something that improves the list then we should do it. It's just a matter of prying something good lose from one of the other clubs.

Is his brother available?

No, but he was when we took Gysberts instead.

I told you guys we were directing out focus to Gold Coast.

Received some mail that Kelly O'Donnell was having a close look at the dogs Michael Talia at the VFL on the weekend. KPD, Out of contract at years end, showed some promising signs during the course of the season but like many young talls is still learning the craft. Could be worth a late rounder

I hear Kelly keeps his cards very closely guarded

Michael Talia was pretty ordinary against us earlier in the year, but I'll back the club again on this.

Michael Talia should be avoided. We enquired about him in his draft year and were advised not to pick him up by his school. I don't think things will have changed in his character much.

like to hear this, & we should also, after we hopefully get this kid, go after Daniel Talia, when his contract comes up in the near future.

hmmn, pity he hasn't any hairs to hide them in. then they'd be more private.

we have to stop listening to this stuff & make our own mistakes, & own that, rather than hearsay & innuendo. we keep tripping over our own feet listening to others.

we missed darling for these reasons.

Do elaborate, please...

This is a game - we are trying to dangle a player to get something while also not making it as if he has to go should we not get anything worthwhile.

You don't build lists by taking offence at contract posturing and cutting ties.

Nathan Jones was very nearly an Essendon player. That would have involved a great deal of posturing and negotiation...

Hasn't it always been like this...??

A school dictates who an afl club recruits?

The Dogs Dad's Army backline consists of Boyd, Morris and Murphy. If they're prepared to let Michael Talia go, that's a red flag for me. Watched the VFL game on Saturday, and he was bog ordinary.

when are we to announce our delistings? Teams who have made finals have started to make theirs yet we have had the most time (as well as other cellar dwellers) and we are yet too.

Is terlich having surgery a sign that he may be with us next year? i don't think so.

I'll answer my own question. My mate just sent me a photo of all the coaches down in Ocean Grove (my neck of the woods-Geelong) at the Collendina Pub enjoying a meal, a beer and whatever else. Perhaps delistings will come after their break. Can post picture if you want, but it is a little blurry but this is what he said (half winding me up etc.)-

"I know it's blurry, but what you see in the photo I have posted is a first hand account of the Melbourne Football Club's coaching committee enjoying a meal and a few beers at the Collendina Pub tonight. This is as close as I got before Todd Viney looked as though he was ready to break my nose. You can see Roos, Goodwin, Rawlings, McCartney (only his scalp) Allison and Viney. They all seemed very chirpy and relaxed. I distinctly heard the name 'Howe' mentioned, and '$400,000' as well. I also heard Brett Allison tip Priddis for a back to back brownlow. They also seemed satisfied with the meals, and Rawlings is left handed. Heard it here first."

The coaching staff are on a retreat just to give them that break from the players and start ramping up off season decisions.

Expect delisting at the end of the week or early next week.

You can't be serious mate

You were 18 once. You can't seriously tell me you haven't matured since then

If we don't pick him up, it's not going to be because of how he acted at school 4 years ago

For what it's worth, I've heard Howe wants to stay as he is good mates with Garland, who is staying, and he had dropped asking price by some $200k.

Seems the club and the player are pretty unimpressed by the manager statements heard throughout 2015.

The hot rumour is O'Meara is the Sun we are chasing.

'Sun' of a gun. O'Meara would be fantastic.

I've also heard that Howe's manager's been an opportunistic [censored] in his negotiations with the club. Perhaps Howe's only just starting to work this out.

I posted in the contracts thread yesterday about what I call the "Trengove factor". Similar to last year players who think they're safe will/should be shopped around. If a suitor is found they tell the player that a club a potential deal looms and they have 24 hours to decided. If no suitor is found the player is unaware his name had been thrown up. Carrying passengers is bad enough but disgruntled passengers is another thing.

By the end of trade 2016 all the garbage should be removed from our list.

Happy to keep Howe for what he is worth. Same with Garland.

Looking at our team we still have holes but getting close. I would like following trades, to start

Howe and 4th round pick to GWS for Hampton and GWS 2nd round pick

That GWS second Round pick to Gold coast for Zac Smith and their 4th round pick

This gives us first 2 picks to offer around for a mid or keep them and get Danger as a free agent but I reckon Hawthorn might have him.

Also would try to get Tabenar from Fremantle or the ruck they stole from us.

Perhaps if we're interpreting what was overheard, they were saying "How (not Howe) good are we, to have landed Dangerfield for just $400,000 a year for the next 5 years.

Reckon Danger was signed by Geelong at the end of 2014.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #32 Tom Sparrow

The rugged Sparrow’s career appears to have plateaued in recent years. He makes the side on a week to week basis but he is unable to establish a foothold in the team’s midfield and arguably performs best outside of the contest in a forward position without being a goal kicker. He remains a good honest foot soldier but is not a star.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #33 Tom Fullarton

Fullarton managed a couple of games in the first half of the season but soon found himself back in the VFL. There, he found a niche at centre half back but it was not enough to retain a place on the list at season’s end.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #35 Harrison Petty

Entering 2025, it looked as if Petty would be secured in a defensive position, but plans shifted and he spent more time forward, averaging just over a goal per game throughout the season. It remains uncertain which area of the ground he will be expected to cover under the new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The dynamic small forward, possessing an innate ability to generate excitement with his explosive play around the goals, successfully transitioned into a role that afforded him more time in the midfield. The club also negotiated a long-term deal with Pickett, thereby eliminating any prospect of a move west by their star young player.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #37 Kade Chandler

For a few years now, he has been a reliable, hard working pressure forward, but in 2025, Chandler elevated his performance, becoming an integral component of the team with enough versatility to play effectively on a wing from time to time.
