Not with protected picks.

Picks will likely be top 5 or top 10 protected, more often than not.

Bringing Prestia and Weideman onto the list, for instance, would be a great boon for the club.

Can you simply trade for picks?

Eg. Hawks think they are travelling very well, they trade their first and second round pick this year to Port for their first two picks next year.

That would give Port a good influx of talent now when they need it and then Hawks would have 4 early picks next year.

I know that next years talent is suppose to be better. I'm just using this as a potential scenario.

Yes the article wasn't exactly clear about a few details. It appears there are certain safeguards for clubs trading away all their next years early picks - but isn't clear on whether a club can trade both its first round picks in the same trade period. It certainly introduces a further dimension of risk into the trade - but chance favours the prepared and I feel my confidence in our recruiting team now is a lot more justified than it has been in the past.

Reason he is worth more then suckling and motlop is because he is a good utility. Supply and demand comes into play and their are always alot more midfielders on the market then their are decent utilities who can play both forward and back.

I find it amazing that someone can get $600k per year over several years for arguably being an average sportsperson in the level they play. I understand it's the nature of the competition, supply and demand, they train hard, put their bodies on the line and yadda, yadda, yadda.... But seriously, $600k p/a, that's a shiteload of dosh! Wouldn't pay anywhere near 600k for Howe. 500k for Motlop however..
