Jones was expected to go to another level this year. He went through the motions even in big losses in past years. This year he has gone unsighted three weeks in a row. Well below his best and being found out as a decent footballer in a bad side.

People need to realize this.

We need more than Jones. He's just a soldier. He's the opposite extreme of Watts, but we have nothing in the middle. No balance.

Last year I said he was tradeable alongside a top pick for a powerful midfielder. Everyone laughed at me. He doesn't actually make us better.

I know it's harsh and I love Jones, but we need winners. He's a loser.

Your the loser Praha. Jones has been flying the flag solo for so long he's earned more respect than you show. I say this to you,Put in or get out!

Tom McD interview on the club site worth a watch, both for what he says about our performance today, but especially what he says about Hawthorn. Great to get a clear and honest view from the inside.

He'll be in the leadership group next year. The changing of the guard is starting.

Amongst all the gloom, a few players weren't entirely disgraced today. Garland and Tommy Mac were good, especially given the pressure they were under, Garlett played his role well, Pedersen pulled out his annual "see, I do know how to play" game, Tyson had probably his best game for the year - though still off the pace from last year - and under the onslaught, Cross, Jones and Vince kept battling. Falls away badly after that though.

Can't imagine Watts would have much currency.

There is no silver bullet, no-one's going to come over the hill on a white horse, no single player is going to turn the club around. The only way to improve is to put in the hard yards, from the Board down to the boot studder, accept that there will be setbacks along the way, and build the kind of team and culture that we've seen at clubs like Hawthorn and the Swans.

Which will take time.

We have been here for 9 fracking years!

What's Dawes contr

Keep Watts, he's only 24, it's all between the ears

Colin Sylvia 2.0

At his best he takes repeated intercept marks, cutting off opposition inside 50s, and he provides strong rebound from the half-back flank. When he cares about playing, and he gets on his bike, he can break the lines through the middle, and while his goalkicking is crap, his field kicking is good and he can hit a target moving forward.

His best is valuable, but he doesn't really care much about producing it at the moment.

I've seen him do that and have a real impact on the game once, against the Tigers last year. He's had his moments here and there no doubt but overall he's another player who has an inflated opinion of himself and just doesn't give a stuff. I reckon he's already checked out just like Frawley last year and we should make him play the year out at Casey. 3/4 time today Jones was having a crack at him and he just walked off, pathetic show of respect for your captain.

I want this guy to succeed so badly. He's a ripping guy from all accounts but he can't stand up to pressure. Big 2-3 months for Toump. I can't see another contract coming at this rate...

He is cooked. His hips were cactus before he was even recruited

2-3 months won't change a thing

Dont give up on toumpas yet. Whilst he might not become the great player we all hoped for when we used pick 4 on him he still could develop into a really solid winger/half back. Hes only played 20 odd games, isnt it a bit early to write him off?

Howe can just [censored] right off. Inflated ego because he takes a few speccies every few weeks, and doesn't like that Roos is playing him in a different position to where he wants to play.

[censored] off to the Giants, you [censored].

Today was another putrid episode in the modern history of the MFC. I wrestled hard with the idea of maintaining my premium membership for the 37th consecutive year and kept the faith. It was not the 100 point loss that angered me, this putrid football belongs to the group of players whose attitude and self respect belongs in the toilet.

Dawes is just one of this group who are getting a game purely on our lack of talent and depth. The only solution I can come up with in the short term is for the club to throw the chequebook at 2 or 3 superstars to keep this club relevant. I cannot see any other way of keeping members on board unless the club goes this way. Peter Jackson and the off field team are getting their job done, however Jacko needs to harness all his resources humanly possible to get A grade stars onto our list for 2016.

I asked it I the Hannebry thread, why would they come to MFC? Money just won't cut it.

PJ is working his guts out to better this club, it's a pity his playing list continually let's all and sundry down. We are only 6 games into the season and Roos says the players are tired...WTF?

PJ needs to go to the AFL and say, he di*kheads you didn't give us a priority pick because of what again now?? We are putrid and have no free agents coming to us, we are irrelevant and on the way out of existence. You have handed 2 tin pot clubs in GS and GWS everything and screwed us. Gil you sat next to Little on Friday, next week come and sit next to me and see what it's like and help us sort this chit out!!!

He never did that. Stop embarassing yourself with pathetic comments like this that you make up to give you a excuse to sink into a player.

Pathetic attempt as usual.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
