READY FOR THE KILL - THE HAWTHORN GAME

Featured Replies

If both Frawley and Lake make a return we will not score enough.

Giants played them at their weakest, we'll not be so fortunate.

Not if we keep running, they wont catch us!

That will bring back memories...

I have a strange feeling coming into this game. Not one of optimism nor dread...just a strange feeling.

Well that's not very helpful is it

15 goals.

Will be 7 down at 1/4 time

Yep my bet with a hawks fan was 90 points in and he took it heheheeheeh

Will be going to the game with a Hawks supporter friend, will most likely be sitting amongst the Hawks supporters, most likely be watching the Hawks beating us,but will be doing my part as a Demons supporter cheering, willing and hoping.

How do you think my day could be, driving 300ks with 2 bloody hawk fans (daughter & sonoutlaw) but on the upside meeting grand daughter and little bro, both demon members. I might use the old "go easy think off my heart condition bit"

Go Dees ya can do it.

Expecting another ass whooping.

Flogging comin our way!

I can't believe Dawe's comments that they're gettable - Did he get concussed last week?

I live to see the response from Demonlanders the first time a player gets asked about how we will do on the weekend and he says " pretty much, we will get smashed"

Melbourne to win by 17 points. Hogan to smash Frawley

Watts to kick 4 in. BOG performance

Brayshaw to rag doll Mitchell's head into the turf in the first 5 mins leaving them a man down

Dawes needs to take a game or two for the team this weekend and use his physicality to upset the Hawks. If he cleans up Roughead I reckon that will be enough.

The poor dear has a "tight" calf.

I don't expect a win but I don't expect a flogging either.

My expectations have been lifted by the lift in performance this season and I see a Hawthorn team weakened playing against a team of players waiting for a game where their confidence 'clicks' at the same time.

Our top 6 players are not at their best right now, but would stack up against Hawthorn's best 6 for the first time in about a decade.

Start with some confidence and I think we will be a chance.

But have 5 players with the predominant mindset they have shown in the last few weeks of inertia and concern and we will get badly beaten.

I want to see a couple of good Hip & Shoulders aim around the rib area

Luke McCabe Style.

We cannot afford to let this arrogant slime rape us yet again

I hope Chup plays...

just glad that i will miss watching this because it clashes with my son's auskick session. Will give me a chance to not be in a foul mood for half a weekend for once.

dawes did make a good point. Whoever Frawley plays on you need and he thinks its hogan, he nees to run him off his feet as chip hasnt played for a few weeks.

Do I expect to win. No and hawthorn should beat a team like us, but anything can happen. I just want to see a good hard contest where we do go in hard at them and stay in the contest.

I expect tommy to get Roughead. But having no Lewis and Hodge helps a little bit.

Garbage

Honestly, do you even know what you are angry about?

I hope Hogan doesn't hurt/humiliate Frawley more than necessary.

We will get pummelled.

Probably right. Given last week, the Hawks will have a point to prove in maintaining 4 Q consistency. They are just too strong on all levels. We are miles away from having the same skills, run, hardness and goal scoring options. Can see the Dees sticking for a period if they maintain sufficient intensity but reckon it will be very hard to get ahead on the scoreboard at any time. Losing Hodge and Lewis certainly helps us and will make for fewer short steps from our mob. I long for the time when we turn up expecting to beat the Hawks. Just hope I am still alive. Like all long-time successful teams they have an arrogance and attitude that is hard to put up with. Both team and supporters.

David Neitz = Jesse Hogan, 2015 style!

I think they're a two (or three) goal - per - quarter better side than us.....so, 40 - 50 point loss.

Likewise - I will be there with my niece who is a Hawthorn supporter. She always ends up buying me some hot jam donuts as she feels sorry for me! Just as a side note, the little boy running through the Melbourne banner this week is Hugo - a mad Melbourne supporter. I think he is about five. He is the

nephew of Glenn Lovett. I will be cheering him on - he is so excited.

Brayshaw to rag doll Mitchell's head into the turf in the first 5 mins leaving them a man down

I can't remember the last time Mitchell was actually injured.

He is a machine.

Hawthorn should smash us.

This concerns me. You haven't been wrong for a while.

I was optimistic leading into the Freo game and even thought we could bounce back with a competitive effort against Sydney. On both occasions I was way off the mark.

Just once, I'd love for us to beat Hawthorn. I'll even take us being in striking distance at 3/4 time. I'm sick of them smashing us.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
