Eddie threatens to quit over equalisation proposals

Players association (Aflpa) proposing an equalisation fund to distribute the wealth more evenly among the clubs, a la the NFL model.

Eddie threatens to quit.

What a win for the game, Eddie goes and the competition does not get divided into the haves and have nots like the NFL system.

What so others think? Is this equalisation good for the game or not?

I think equalization will happen at a fair level eventually, but Eddie and co will influence the decision at the start and it will take years to actually get to this 30-50% level. Glad the players association did something good for the AFL.

Does Eddie thinks its fair that Collingwood have 70k members and we have 35, and the Dogs and Kangas even less?

He has got it easy at the Pies, they have always been the most supported team, its just pure luck.

I have to ask, 'what is the downside to football and the AFL if Eddie quits'?

Is he one of the games greats? does he bring enormous amounts of money into the game? would anyone but Eddie care if he quit? what is he going to quit from? the Collingwood presidency? is he going to move all his interests out of AFL? where does his income come from?

It seems to me that Eddie has done pretty well out of footy and he has more to lose...so off you go Eddie.

i remember Eddie as a junior reporter at Ch 10. He and Quarterbrain were often at the Tunnel in various forms of inebriation.

Eddie became famous after he voiced the Filth Premiership Video in 1990

Without him the game will survive.

The Filth are what they are because they have consistently been around the mark.

Like Richmond, the Filth pulled big TV numbers in the 60's & 70's when TV was the king

We all watched Football Inquest and 7's Big League on saturday night

Remember the "Arnott's Golden Football Award" when Mike Williamson would chow down on Butter Nut Snaps down the camera lens.

Melbourne was on about 3times a year

The Filth were on weekly

Probably because 121,000 punters went to the 1970 GF (my first game at the G as a 6 year old)

Ch 7 started their serious coverage in 1965

We completely missed the boat from then

Let's not forget The Filth own The Ponsford Stand even at away fixtures

Pure greed Eddie considering the MFC helped finance the original Victoria Park which was a slag heap before.

Interesting the amount of Collingwood supporters tossing up about going to the soccer instead of the football on Friday night. Wonder if this will have any longterm effect on club attendances and health.

Good [censored] mate. I had a brilliant 30th and went to America and Europe for 3 months a week later.

Feels like last week.

Go hard....

Wish I could, but hard to take 3 months out of life with 2 kids and a job. My wife's a saint but that'd be a stretch.

Besides it's my daughter's 2nd birthday next week, so she can take the spotlight off her ageing old man.

If getting serious about equalisation means Eddie wants out, then that sounds like a win-win situation to me ... See ya, Eddie!

Hahahaha superb dc

Eddie quits and thinks the AFL world shall miss him

Oh yes i shall mourn the passing of Eddie Mcguire who as a reporter for ch 10 if things went a little awry (technical hitches) Eddie would tear strips off those around him

Spoilt brat.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
