AFL watching is a real grind, unless we are winning to be fair.

Can't believe the Pies picked up Grundy at pick 18! He will be the best ruck man in the comp b the end of next year, if not this year. We haven't had a good ruck men since Jeff White (no offence to Jamar I like his effort but he isn't in the same league).

I called it at the time he was drafted. A lot of good top picks in that daft, for most teams.

Carlton were horrible tonight, reminded me of the Dees at their worst. Playing on from the backline with no one to kick to, players ahead of the ball not moving, handballing to players under pressure.

It's good not to be the laughing stock of the AFL anymore.

Agree entirely.

I've been rambling on about this ever since the fixture came out but Carlton wasn't even any good last year, they should never have gotten close to 6 Friday nights (+ a Thursday night). It's indefensible that the football public has to be repeatedly subjected to watching boring Friday night beltings (the remaining games include Carlton away to Sydney and a Hawthorn v Carlton game - those are going to be enormous thrashings).

It only adds insult to injury that Melbourne, the Bulldogs and GWS have improved to the point where games involving them would be competitive, maybe even exciting, and definitely a lot closer than Carlton v Sydney/Hawthorn.

More ranting, because I can.

Just had another look - Carlton has 4 Sunday games all year. By comparison, we have 10.

And Seven have 4 more of these shitfest Carlton Friday night matches to look forward to!

Meanwhile, talented young lists like Melbourne, GWS and the Bulldogs have none. Some fantastic forward planning there by the geniuses at Channel 7.

Yep definitely Carltank Putrid Gwibbs, Murphy, Judd, Jones were abysmal !

another 4 you say?? Sheeit worrying for channel 7 and the League!

How Liam Jones gets a game is a mystery to me

It's the Carlton forward line, Grace Jones could probably get a game.

My sister ( a Doggies supporter - boo!) did a victory dance when he was picked up by Carlton. She always thought he was a massive spud, and I think she nailed it.

Henderson.. 0 marks 0 kicks 0 handballs 1 tackle.. Donut game.. Lmao

Didnt he blow out a hammy before half time?

The funniest part about such a putrid team having the Friday night spotlight so much is that it means far more pressure on their club and their coach when they don't perform.

Compare that to Brisbane, absolutely putrid this year but playing in timeslots where nobody watches nor cares. Imagine the pressure Leppa would be under if he had to roll his team out every third Friday.

I actually think Carlton getting thrashed on Friday night is great for ratings. There are fans of 17 teams who will gleefully tune in to watch that over and over again.

Nah, too menacing. Met her once ... still not quite recovered. Intimidating.

I called it at the time he (Grundy) was drafted. A lot of good top picks in that daft, for most teams.

Remind me please. What year was that and who did we pick before him?

It was the Toumpas year. Pick 4.

Also picked up Hogan, Barry, Viney, Kent, Matt Jones and Terlich.

Traded in Dawes with pick 20 and 47.

Signs are Carlton are self-destructing! Two weeks into the season:

-Coach says he has a crap list

-Announce list rebuild - amazing with 20 weeks to go.

-CEO questions the Coach's age and energy

-Talk of trading their captain

Great recipe for destroying a team's morale, right there!!

Then, they embarrass themselves big-time under the spot lights of the MCG. Many more MCG spot lights to come. Hard to see them recovering from the 'shock and awe' of all this. Fair chance they will get the wooden spoon this year!

They of course will look for a 'saviour' as they always do but there isn't one. They will flounder at the bottom of the ladder for the next 10 years.

All whilst the club jacks up membership prices then has to beg fans to sign up.

Why he was picked up by Carlton and seen as the saviour of their forward line is an even bigger mystery to me...

Carlton...the Leagues new basket case. They must really be feeling blue :)

Hate to say it but Collingwood might just get scary in the next year or two. We have yet to see Freeman and Scharenberg (two top 10 picks in 2013) or Darcy Moore and Sidebottom is to come back.

Their list is looking a lot like that of GWS: 14 of last night's team have played less than 50 games, very good senior players showing great leadership. Collingwood have made a point of having 3/4 top 20 picks in the last 3 years and it is paying off for them. Like Geelong and Hawthorn, they have rebuilt quietly.

They didn't get much resistance last night but the signs of a very good team were clearly visible! Yuk..it doesn't sit comfortably praising them. Unlike those 'bruise-free' Carlton players we will put up a decent fight and will beat them on QB!

Footnote: it gives me great pleasure to label Carlton players as 'bruise-free' footballers

Didnt he blow out a hammy before half time?

Was just soreness iirc

I think people have really under estimated the pies and how good they are. they sit at the top 4-1.

also the loser out of cats tigers today may also get some attention especially if the tigs lose again.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
