If the Freo rumours have a grain of truth, he now certainly has a lot to ponder about.  I was curious how he would perform against Richmond with Freo's disgrace still fresh.  Though a reasonably solid game aside from a few errors he was unusually low key as if pre occupied with something. We have been accustomed that he is always noticed whether playing good or bad.  Now time to empty the tea leaves and wash the cup.

I'm sure he'll stay as it looks like he is really enjoying himself at the club,  but if he did leave I don't think it would be as devastating as I thought it would have been at the start of the year.  We've seen how important it is for everyone in the team to be playing good football- with our recent success and Jesse down on form, a team can do just as well perhaps even better with an even contribution as opposed to relying on one dominating forward. It's about getting the mix right and as it stands right now Jesse's importance lies in drawing the best defender each week,  while the role players are free to do what they like. 

This is a strange feeling, I actually don't care if he stays or goes, if he stays great but if he goes we would be well compensated, I guess when we are traveling ok we can feel that way

i do, because a player like Hogan could be the difference between multiple flags and going close a couple of times

Lyon/Goodwin,   Shortened Career (travel factor)/Healthy Career (home of footy), Struggling Team on rebuild/Exciting Team on the way up, Great Money/Great Money....

I think the extra pressure that is being applied will force his hand and he will sign soon, it's already effecting his form. He just doesn't recognise it yet...

If he doesn't, we move on...

Looks like a long slow burn ahead at Freo, 4-5 year rebuild maybe. Would anyone want to put themselves through that again ?

Agree, the way they are travelling he would be the playing the "saviour of the club" role which is daunting enough but even moreso in a two-club town.

Yes however don't ignore what's happening before our very eyes. We perceive Jesse and his value to the team in pretty much only one way. We want a lead up forward who will take a big grab, kick a heap of goals bust open packs and cause havoc amongst opposition defences. That's a one dimensional appoach. Jesse has plenty of strings to his bow. The club understands what he can do if he is released up the ground...........  and we've seen him do it.  Dont knock this guy if he doesn't snag 5 goals. Look at how he is impacting the game in other ways.

What we've got is a unique footballer. He is going to be huge for us and my feeling is he wants to be amongst it. Dont expect him to stick around the forward 50 an entire game if another approach is required.

Mundy is close to retirement also. Fyfe's injury could also be a career killer.

having said that i like where we sit, we can match any financial offer pretty much, we're clearly on the improve and we play at the MFC every other week, which i'm sure a player like Jesse would love.

Maybe, but we wouldn't want to be putting too many eggs in the Hogan basket, because we have quite a few emerging players who will warrant very solid coin when their next contract comes around.  Hopefully, mateship, loyalty and the strong prospect of team success will keep them in the red and blue. 

I'd expect Freo to to be pretty flush next season with Pav and possibly Sandi and others expected to retire.

Agreed, but i think it'd be foolish to think the club hasn't been aware of the type of Salary Hogan would command on this offer, no doubt they've structured things in the right way to retain all our talent at the right price.

If we can afford $400k/year for Melksham I'm sure we'll find the coin for the Hulkster

Keep in mind as we have other young guys on the rise - should they fulfil their potential - such as Petracca, Brayshaw, Viney, Weideman, et al, they will also command greater coin.  Besides Fremantle, there will be plenty of other sides chasing the Hulk.  So we have to balance keeping the core of the list together, or lose a one gun for the greater good. We face a delicate balance in the not too distant future.

There was a bit on ch 10 over here last night about Hooker, McCarthy and Hogan but the kids were screaming so I didn't hear it.

But honestly, if Hogan leaves us for Freo I would be gobsmacked.

• Lyon has proved once again he is a coach who rides in on the coat tails of previous coaches development
• Proceeds to decimate the list whilst chasing a flag
• Freo's list is full of only average players that can't execute an attacking game plan (Jesse would love that reduction inside 50's I bet)
• Bennell can't get on the park
• Neale probably leaving
• Walters the only decent small forward
• Fyfe doubtful
• Fortnightly travel

I could go on but if you care to reflect these items against what we have to offer and include his desire to be a great player in a team with so much potential for success well, I consider it'd be an extremely dumb decision for him to leave.

Whatever happens, here's hoping he commits at some point...

IMHO it will be decided in about 18 weeks time.

The Dees continue their current form and finish close to the eight this year and he will stay.

5 weeks ago I would have perished the thought of him going. But after 5 rounds the team is starting to play so well as a total group and with him not really contributing above and beyond so far, I could see us prospering if he choses to go. Let Freo stuff up their future List Management by paying overs for one player. There's been enough evidence to show it doesn't work either way. The Hawks prospered without Buddy. They just changed their game plan to have more goal kickers. He and Tippett haven't exactly transformed the Swans who lost Mumford to fit Buddy in the cap. They are great players but there are 22 in a team. Judd didn't do much for Carlton. Ablett is the exception but on the other hand the Suns dependence on one player has probably held back the development of the team as a whole. I trust in Mahoney, Viney & PJ to manage this for the best long term outcome for the club. If worst came to worst the way Freo are going we could end up with pretty healthy compensation. Picks and players. Maybe a Lachie Neale deal. Who knows. 

I would still be really upset if he goes but the Sun will rise. Scully taught me that. Would be ironic if the Scully pick just kept on keeping on. First Scully, then he turns into Hogan, then Hogan turns into X.  Let it not be so. He's part of the group now.

Mayne and Neale are also speculated to move clubs at seasons end as well. Serious rebuild coming up for Freo. All and all, there's seriously been some terrible list management by Ross Lyon considering there is a real lack of young talent coming through.

He's been bought in to win a premiership and it's totally backfired on him because he's to arrogant to change his outdated plan.

I really do not see why the footy media raves about him, he hasn't even won a Grand Final, left the St Kilda list in shambles and looks to be doing the same thing to the dockers, should start calling him Hurricane Lyon!
