When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?

Hawthorn had Hudson 105 in 1977 and Matthews was second on list with 91 for the season.

Different footy those days - Tigers kicked 23 goals in GF  and lost

To be fair this is only ONE example, you need at least a sample of 5 games minimum to create something "different".

Quite ridiculous that 3(!!) players cracked the ton in 93 considering there were only 20 H&A games per team (2 byes each) - the same for 1969 as well.

In fact some of the earlier goalkickers like Coventry, Pratt etc would have been during an 18 game H&A season, Pratt kicking 150!

iirc 1969 would have been 18 games

Does the club have a copy of 'Star Trekkin' by The Firm on vinyl just begging for destruction?

Or 'I'll Be Back' by Arnee and the Terminators?

Perhaps a copy of Styx's 'Mr Roboto' might be lying around in the ornate desk that CS was purported to have left at the club?

Otherwise, I am not sure there are too many more embarrassing records we need to break. 😃

I just realised that since we won our first premiership, we have always had at least one living-premiership captain. Wardill died in 1929, two years after Albert Chadwick won the 1926 premiership. Chadwick died in 1984, while surviving premiership captains, Beckwith, Barassi and Mcmahen are alive to see Gawn win the 2021 premiership

I feel so old that I remember Star Trekkin

Interested to know at what stage of the season did everyone "know" that we were the real deal, and were a serious shot at a flag.

Would have to go back through my own history, but I reckon I had us as premiership favorites maybe 6 rounds prior to end of regular season.

As a 40+ year negative nancy, that was a bloody good feeling.

I started feeling confident round 12 …. 3 goals down to Brisbane at half time, then a 9 goal to 3 second half.  And I must say even at half time, for the first time I felt pretty confident that we could get back.

One embarrassing record I don’t think has been mentioned is that we haven’t won 3 flags in a row since 1957 - we need to break that by 2023, then surpass it. 🙄❤️💙

Stretching the definition of "embarrassing" here.

It's testament to our recent success that most of the "embarrassing" records have been consigned to the bin.

On this very sad day for Ukraine and the world at large, I decided to refresh my memory of one of the greatest footballers I've ever seen, Alex Jesaulenko. I doubt there is anyone who saw him play who wouldn't have Jezza in the top few players they ever saw.

What surprised me, though, is that he's the only Carlton player to score 100 goals in a season. Given the powerful Carlton sides from the mid-60s to the mid-90s, I had just assumed there would be others, such as Peter Bousustow, Stephen Kernahan or Warren Ralph. Puts the embarrassment of Melbourne not having any player kick 100 goals in a season into a better perspective.

Jezza was one of those oppo players who was so good that you can't hate them. Their ability transcended the usual rivalries/hatred. (But don't query me on that had he played for Collingwood.)

The fact that he toppled Collingwood twice ('70, '79) adds to the lustre.

Bosustow, while spectacular, was a 50-goal type cameo player, not a spearhead. Kernahan played CHF, making it difficult. Ralph was beautiful, too beautiful, a bit soft in fact.

The no-100-goal-scorer doesn't bother me a jot. Stats in any field throw up all kinds of anomalies, and I'd rather have the anomalous results of no 100-goal scorers than be a one- or two-flag club than a THIRTEEN BEAUTIFUL PREMIERSHIPS club.

Yep, I’ll take our 13 flags and no “tons” over St Kilda’s 1 flag with 5 times having players kick 100 goals in a season.

I would love a 350 game player, a 400 game player and a 100 goals in a season forward line player for Melbourne.

I would also like another team to lose by over 190+ points in an AFL game.

However, I will choose more Premierships over all of these records every time.

After a 57 year Premiership drought finally over I think we all would like to see a bit of sustained success by the Demons.

Winning Flags is all that matters.

Not embarrassing but a record broken.

Why don't we change this title to "The no longer embarrassing records Melbourne have changed or have performed since  2014 or 2015.

We could at  the top of the post  just list  the very small  few we need to address and mark them  off when they occur.

BTW we must be near the GF record for scoring in the last quarter 9.1 . I think Essendon may have that with 9.6 in 1984 but a check or  D/L with the record Would tidy that one up.

Surely our 16.4  is a last half record if not even a record for any half of GF footy!?

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
