Yep that was the game i was at

The first game with The Centre Diamond!!

Something funny I noticed when I was looking at the charts in the article about "How Roos finally turned the Demons around".

Our current run is our longest stretch of consecutive 'improved seasons' since the 1940s. Win count 1942-46 - 5, 7, 7(%), 8, and finally 13 (and a grand final appearance).

The only other run of 4 in a row is 1923-26, going 3,4,12,14 and culminating in a premiership.

It gets better for Mr Roos.

That 1940s run is shared between Percy Beams and 'Checker' Hughes, who each coached a couple of those season, and the 1920s run is shared between Rattray, Wilson and finally Chadwick.

Meaning that Paul Roos holds the Melbourne Football Club record for consecutive seasons of improvement as coach.

That says everything about our poor our club has been and not how good Roos has been. However, he has been terrific since coming in. That record is an inditement on our footy club.

Don't forget there were periods in our history the WE were the dominant team! Pretty hard to improve when your the best team in the comp.

And it is also actually very difficult to continue having an upward trend for improvement in W/L ratio. At some point you either get to the top, get your teams ceiling of improvement, or you just get some bad luck.

Would be interested to know the all time AFL record for improved consecutive seasons.

Yep, I'm sure that's the way Bucks is explaining it to Maguire.

Well on the other hand it's probably a lot easier to continue a downward trend in W/L! :P

Bucks has mastered the art. Under him, the Pies have had fewer wins each year, lower percentage, lower ladder position than the year before. Showing all the sublime skill and super consistency that he did as a player.

Bucks: It's the injuries. We can't get a consistent line up on the park.

Eddie: Oh, I know, Nathanial. I know.

B: We've got some youngsters coming through. Moore is progressing, Aish is starting to show some form.

E: I know. You look so handsome tonight Nathaniel.

B: It's the unforced errors that are killing us. And some senior players are well down in form just at a time when we need them.

E: I know Nathaniel. I know all about ... needing someone ...

B: We're going to have to think really hard about trading Cloke.

E: Oh let him go! There's only one man I want in *my* team.

B: Trouble is we don't have much trade bait apart from him ...

E: Oh, Nathaniel! Let's not talk about boring old football!

B: We need more skill around the packs but we can't wait for draft p---- what?

E: Nathaniel .... kiss me you fool!

When was the last time we won 3 in a row?

First win over Port in Adelaide since 2000 -  Broken

6 years and 5 days ago, when we beat Richmond, having beaten Brisbane and handed out the biggest defeat Roos suffered at the Swans.

We thought we were on a roll. This time it's different.

Please....

Cripes was it that long ago. Well now we've knocked 3 off, how long has it been since we've done 4?

The much vaunted 2006, and we did it 5 times that year. That is, we had separate winning streaks of 5 and 6.^_^

After we beat norf and saints next year will there be anymore "hoodoos" to tick off?

The Wet Coke E-Girls

must be a long time since our season was still live with 2 games to go

and every chance it will still be live coming into the last game

it's a feeling i'd forgotten about (nearly - lol)

Broke a bunch of records last night that I can think of:

  • Three wins in a row
  • Beat Port
  • Beat Port in Adelaide
  • Make it through a season without 3 consecutive losses at any point (this, for mine, is as big as any of them. No losing patches. No extended drop offs in form).

Following on from Titan's post above.

This year we will not lose three in a row. The first time we've done that since 1998.

2016 is only the second time we've avoided three straight losses since 1964!

Thank god Essendon beat the Suns today. Being the only side to lose to them this season would've ranked high in the embarrassment stakes.

Won in that horrible white jumper - maybe not a record but nice to see.

Won in Adelaide.   Beat Port.

Think we'll have to do that again this week, we're the away team so I'd expect us to wear that thing.

4 in a row, 2006 the last time that happened (we actually won 5 in a row twice that year).

We're starting to creep towards the most important record of them all....a premiership.

It'll be hard to do this year though; hawthorn seems hell-bent on knocking over an even bigger hoodoo. Believe it or not, they've never won four premierships in a row.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
