Necessity, mother if invention....cousin to opportunity.

For not just form considerations but injury some may now get a run and others more game.

Team sheet will be interesting .

Out: Viney

In: JKH

In terms of pecking order I agree, but I think whoever comes in needs to be capable of playing the bulk of the game in the guts if necessary (even if it doesn't pan out that way). I would expect to see Newton with increased "inside" midfield responsibilities, with the likes of Michie or Toumpas to come in to play an outsider role.

I wouldn't be supset if Michie got a go with a tagging role, I really do think the team is better with JKH in it but I'm not sure who else to take out other than Viney.

A strong mid body needs to come in

Michie probably a look in for that role imho

Dawes gives Jamar a rest.

Clearly you have not been watching our games? Viney was our best midfielder in R2 and in R1 went head to head with Ablett and beat him. Please note Viney was not Ablett opponent when he Ablett went forward.

Further Viney as a SA boy seems to always have a stellar game when in Adelaide. Viney would be way ahead of N Jones on form.

You must have missed the bit where Viney has a broken leg and is out for 426.

I dont expect everyone to agree but Dawes has some straight at the ball, crashing the pack attributes of a back man. Would have liked to have seen him made to match up on the rampaging McCarthy last week for a spell. Once all was lost could have been worth a look and used as a disciplinary move as well. He is not a CHF.

I must watch the replay but from my memory of what I saw at the ground, DAwes had contests with poor delivery. Often he was one in a pack of 2 or 3 melbourne players. There were many times that the ball spilled and there was no Melb player down. Dawes did chase and harrassed and caused turnovers but was by himself with no support.

There really did not seem to be too much teamwork. I think Roos alluded to that fact and hopefully they work on that. havent seen any training reports this week.

I'm feeling like Jamar forward to stretch the Crows and Spencer in the team.

I realise that's a move that looks good on Thursday and is a disaster by Saturday but we can't afford to be uncompetitive in the clearances again and if we play a slow lumbering game plan kicking it long to big forwards maybe that will help our defensive set ups.

It's not the exciting change that will produce the footy we displayed in round 1. But sometimes you have to go a step backwards for a step forward and back to fundamentals and winning the stoppages might be a start. Plus hey, the Russian kicked 5 once. He's due to do it again.

Play Gus for 3 qts, then sub him off, simples.

I like the idea of Dawes getting dropped, even tho I called for him to be included in rnd 2 team, and go back to the rnd 1 team. But i suspect the team to go unchanged,

And if he is playing really well for 3 qtrs why should we?

can take a grab

Possibly. Just doesn't help our speed at all and if Spencer can't hold up in the ruck for at least 60% of the first 3/4's (after which I'd sub him off) then Jamar has to ruck more and Spencer spends a lot of time playing forward. It also relies on no one getting injured so we can sub one of the rucks when the game opens up.

I'm just very worried about what happens if we start getting smashed in the midfield against Adel. GWS got nasty enough. Adelaide could be many times worse with their fire power.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
