7 important goals, and there's still 7 minutes until three quarter time!

Make that 8 9 goals with 6 minutes to go to at three quarter time

Make that 8. It must make Carlton fans vomit to see him in action like this. Makes everyone is smile too.

Not a fan of the Weagles, but gee it's good to see Malthouse being edged towards the exit.

I haven't seen anything tonight to change my preseason prediction of Carlton finishing bottom 2 this year.

...and I've seen enough to think WC will probably finish bottom 4.

"It’s very, very difficult to see where we’re going to lose a game."

- Mick Malthouse

Mick is a victim of his poor list. He is coaching to the teams potential but then why are Betts, Garland and Waite playing somewhere else? Their problem was always the forward line for the past 8 years but they have kept unloading forwards since Mick arrived. Go figure?

Man I wish we were playing Carlton soon. They are rubbish! We will easily finish higher than them.

Somewhere sandwiched between our upcoming run of Hawks/Swans/Freo/Port would've been a nice gesture by the AFL.

This is hilarious.

Not impressed with both sides. WC soft track bullies. Carlton our successors?

Surely, surely amongst the 20 something million of us there is a better commentator to call upon than Basil Zempilas?

Chris Judd to Dean Cox just then: "We're [censored]"

Dermot Brereton?

(joke)

Worst Captain in the AFL?

By some margin. Soft as butter

Dermie was just saying he rated West Coast well ahead of Carlton and he expects West Coast to finish between 12th and 15th.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.

  • POSTGAME: Western Bulldogs

The Demons lacked some polish but showed a lot of heart and took it right up to the Bulldogs in an attempt to spoil their finals hopes ultimately going down by a goal at the MCG.
