Jeff's best in the ruck was thwarted with the change in the centre bounce rule.  To my mind, his failure was that he didn't kick enough goals after that, in a capacity of what he should have become.  A true follower/forward.  113 goals in a 13 year career is not a great return.

He kicked a good one against the Dogs R21 2005, though!

Bit harsh, he was our main ruckman, not a follower forward and 113 goals is ok in that role.

Sandilands at 211 cms and and 16 cms taller than White and who plays a lot forward, 241 games and 92 goals.

Mumford 129 games and 44 goals.

Max Gawn at 208cms and who plays forward a fair bit, especially early on, has 52 games and 30 goals.

Goldstein 159 games and 80 goals.

Again, the main point is missed. I said, his influence in the ruck was diminished when they changed the centre bounce rule, together with chronic shin injuries.  No doubt he had heaps of talent, but I am just saying in the context of the debate as to whether he was an A+ grade player or not, he did not move on.  When the game changed on him - which clearly was beyond his control - my point was, it would have been good to see him evolve into a goal kicking forward/follower, similar to that of Peter Moore.  In anybody's language, 113 goals over 13 seasons would suggest otherwise I would have thought.  That said, I mostly loved the way he went about it.

Ah some commion sense!! He was not as effective at Melbourne as he was at Colingwood and still for mine not an A + Grade player! So daisy Cutter and Dazzle I can see how you are very easily impressed All Australian etc Brownlow etc and whilst these are fantastic he lacked the superstar status of Ablett, Judd, Plugger, Buddy, Danger et al! An excellent player at Melbourne but NOT A SUPERTSTAR!

In a very ordinary footy team at the time.

i didn't realise a-grade meant you had to be the equal of an ablett, judd, plugger, buddy or danger. wouldn't be many a-graders going around then

Yep Ok Agree but if the standard I speak of is players of this Ilk Then NO we havent had many or got any in recent 20 Year history!

A + GRADE = Superstar elite! We haven't had one since Robert Flower! then before him Ron Barrassi!

Brownlows and All Australian only paint part of the picture! Just ask Leigh Mathews !

Eg Robert Flower Did things that were totally Elite! Just look at his performances in State games where he was more often than not BOG

If Rob Flower had played at Essendon, Hawthorn, or Nth at the peak of his powers he would have perhaps have gone down as the greatest player in History Not just an A+ "Elite" champion that he was !

That is my Calibre of A+ Not Peter Moore, Not Jeff White !

Ok Daisy Cutter, you have made your piont If you think Jeff White and Peter Moore are A+ Graders then that is your opinion and you are entitled to it! I am entitled to mine! I am reminded of the following

Just grossly unfair that we couldn't snare Darcy under the father son rule.

are you implying Prestia is that kind of 'superstar'?? he wouldn't even be the best player in a team sitting outside the 8! he's very good, no where near great though.. not sure why you started this avenue of discussion (i.e. the dees not having a chance to lure him from GC)..

What does Peter Moore got to with this Dion Prestia thread? beats me . Are the Dees going to throw a bucket load of cash Prestia's way,we still have to give up draft picks. Surely we need to have money to pay for our young future stars. We do need a CHF,CHB and a decent back up ruckman.

PF  Strangely ( though some might find not so ) I'm not one to automatically dispense your utterances to the bin. We all have things to share and inform. However to not consider  Jeff White and especially Peter Moore as A+ graders does your publishing no good errand.

They had to re WRITE the rules ffs to counter White he was do demonstrably at the sharp end.  Peter Moore one of the very rare transplants into Melbourne.   A gem of a player and even respected when filthy !!

No not saying Prestia is a superstar at all Hence as much as he would fit in well at Dees is not that Superstar player I have described!

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
