FAREWELL JEREMY HOWE

I've actually stuffed that up anyway - we got Weideman and Bugg with that pick 10 and pick 43 went with it to GWS- I think Hulett arrived as part of that deal, not the Gold Coast one.  The trade was more complex than the Saturn rocket - glad it's Mahoney, Viney and Taylor orchestrating that stuff and not me.

Bb I fear it is not as simple as Howe for Benken. We moved Toumpas (a number 4 pick) to the Power in the same round-robin of picks so what was the advantage of that (except to Collingwood)? I cannot recall what else we got for Toumpas if somebody could enlighten me?

Toumpas had no value at AFL Level.

It was great to get rid of him, let's be honest here. If he has played at Port much this year i sure haven't noticed him

this was the alluded to notion. Toumpas/No Toumpas..    difference??  ( to us )

In terms of Melbourne and Filth...who did better ?  I think we have.  Howe much better ??  Exactly

Pretty even at this stage. But i am happy with Ben Ken

Howe will provide the Pies fans with a nice sideshow of speccies as they trudge through the next five years of mediocrity.

We've moved on from needing a sideshow.

;)

A lot of views on Howe....

My personal opinion for what it's worth is that Jeremy wasn't lazy but just not a smart footballer.

A lot used to call for him to play deep forward to take advantage of his leap and high marking...Jeremy wasn't smart enough, he got blocked way too easily and could never find a way to make space. He couldn't read the ball coming in and his opponents had an easy time against him.

Now that I've contributed to a thread I'm not particularly interested in I'm off to have a shower and forget about it again.

REVISION (I'm sure nobody cares, but it was bugging me):

With PA and Collingwood:
Out: Howe, Toumpas
In: Kennedy, 29, 50

Which enabled the GC trade:
Out: 6, 29, R1 2016
In: 3, 10

Which enabled the GWS trade:
Out: 10, 43, 64
In: Bugg, 7

Netting off the final results, also excluding the zero-value pick we traded out [64], I think it was this:
Out: Howe, Toumpas, 6 [Ah Chee], R1 2016
In: Kennedy, Bugg, 3 [Oliver], 7 [Weideman], 50 [Hulett].

That really is an awesome trading period.

If it's true that Howe went to Collingwood because he supported them as a kid, then I actually reckon he deserves credit for being motivated by something other than money and on-field success.

He went because they thought he was a forward and he wanted to be.

Now they've realized.

Essentially he has proved our coaching staff right.

In relation to the last part, I think he was sucked in like a lot of the football media and believed the hype around Collingwood.

Callum Twomey says Jeremy Howe has been one of most successful trades in only behind Dangerfield and Treloar.  With BenKen in the magoos, who is winning this trade???

hand grenades ready...

It wasn't as simple as Howe for Kennedy though.

He has been good for them, but at half back. One of the reasons he said he left is because they had a defined forward role for him... which lasted about 2 weeks. Wasn't happy playing HBF at melbourne, and now playing it in a less successful team

The media have always had an over inflated opinion of Howe because of this highlights reel of marks. He is playing better than he did with us, but we are better off without him, he was lazy and unaccountable, some of the decisions he made were incredibley stupid.

What I find ridiculous is that the media portray Howe as being a revelation at half back playing for the pies when he played that position with the Demons as well.

Not IMO

Howe was a useful player who can hold down a position at AFL level.

Kennedy is too short and cannot.

We lost on this one.

Careers are not yet over OD

We already know Howe is lazy

Ben Kenn is still finding his Mojo

i really hope he gets there

He could not get a regular game at Collingwood there was a reason for that.

He is your classic Too good for VFL not good enough for AFL.

With Garlet out you would imagine he would have been the replacement after great form for Casey.

But no they gave his spot to a bloke who has played twice this year with poor results.

Makes me think the FD don't think he is much either.

The guy takes a few speccies and the media gushes over him once again.

Let's not forget that Bucks specifically recruited him as a forward, which he's so far failed at.

Howe was a good player for us, and that has continued at Collingwood. Should we have played hard ball? Absolutely. But what is done is done.

Howe was not going to take us anywhere special. I wish him well at Collingwood.

He has been replaced by young players such as Oscar McDonald and Hunt.

Hope Ben Kennedy makes it but even if he doesn't the team probably has better balance without Howe

I think the FD were still trying out players last week.

How else can you explain such a strange team selection and matchday tactics

very bizarre....

I'd say completely the opposite. Knew how to play, just so frigging lazy.

Hunt, Jetta, Mac X 2, Frost, Milkshake and hopefully Hibbert are our future back line. I wouldn't replace any one of them with Howe.

It is not any of those we replaced Howe with Mr. Shadow.

it is Mr Kennedy.
