That is unequivocally good news.

A true Demon who stood by us in tough times.

Had his jaw broken behind play by the thug Mathews.

A loyal servant of the club as they say and to this day I see him at every MCG game.

This can only be good for us.

I was about 20 metres away from that incident pit. It was one of Mathews greatest [censored] acts. A dead set king hit.

Steven is a great guy and a family friend. As a kid he used to get me into the rooms at the MCG after games to meet the team. He also got my a footy signed by the entire 1994 team. He really loves the Dees and to this day attends every match and keeps in contact with those inside the club.

His appointment can only be a good thing for us. Good luck to him with the new position! Go Dees!

Cannot surely be bad for the MFC though his director's rôle could require him to declare conflicts of intrest in matters relating to MFC. At very least he should ensure that we are not screwed at any stage.

One of my favorite dees player. Was great at fb. Was killing Matthews the day LM king hit him with ball miles away (and smithy looking toward ball)

Why was this incident just glossed over? I was there that day. As far as I'm concerned Leigh Matthews is a thug, not any different from the drunken thugs who punch out night club patrons. For those of you who think Jeff Garlett committed a great crime by not informing the MFC of his full history just keep in mind his so-called sin was a sin of omission, not the cold-blooded sin of thuggery, or let's just call it what is really is, ASSAULT. Yet in AFL folklore Leigh Matthews is a heroe. Give me a friggin break!!!

The Giles incident happened in front of me as a kid.

Have detested LM ever since. Is a sign of the times when a thug like that is in demand as a commentator!

IIRC, Steve is also the answer to a truly trivial piece of trivia, namely: "who was the 1st Little League participant to play VFL seniors?"

I was behind the goals with my Steven Smith duffel coat on.

Had to look past the goal umpire ,Matthews and Smith to see the play.

Might've been 25m.

As you said, dead set king hit.

Couldn't believe the goal ump "didn't see it".

I think lovely Leigh got about three of our guys over the years with king hits behind the play, and no official ever saw anything as usual. And we never laid a glove on him as I remember things.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
