To follow a side that wins more than we lose and regularly plays finals is my wish before I pass on.

The rest is I think Pie in the sky.

That'd be a vast improvement on the present. Regular finals would be lovely in my dotage. But a pie in the sky would be great eating.

It would be a bugger to get the sauce on it, though ...

I pulled up behind a car at the lights in Woodvale(suburb of Perth) and was pleased to see I had one mate at least in this city as his number plate read 64 MFC. My plates are 57 MFC. I always thought that 1957, the third of a hat trick of premierships was the best. It was also unique in that we were surprisingly beaten in the 2nd semi by Essendon. A crushing win over the Hawks and a big win over the Bombers in the GF was perfect payback. However, while I reckoned on my 1957 plate being superior I started to ponder over the 1964 one. Sadly, in view of our lot this one represents our LAST premiership. Maybe it is more famous than my 1957 one. Thoughts?

I managed to fluke the plates MFCDEE...was wrapped & still am! Certainly nice to have a premiership year though!

No, it was not a silver Toyota but a bright red ute with P plates. (I am not good at brands). It was definitely 64 MFC. Better check your plates! There couldn't be two 64 MFC plates!

Was parked at the shops today (south of Perth) and the car next to mine had plates "287 MFC" with the MFC emblem between the numbers and letters. Nice looking plates, wonder if the owner posts here.

Reading this thread reminds me of a friend's MFC supporting family;her dad bought a bottle of red during Grand Final week in 1988 to celebrate the win.Of course we all know that didn't happen so he put it away in a cupboard to drink when Melbourne did win a flag.He has since passed on but his surviving wife and daughters plan on drinking the bottle when we do win one.

By that stage it might well be red wine vinegar!

No need hardtack it will be shown in heaven.

How do I know you will be in Heaven?

Easy you have already gone through half a century of hell as a MFC supporter.

The Big woman up stairs will be kind to you.

I imagine the critical mass of demons there will allow Hell to be successful in the rights bidding. And the replays will always melt at the 30 minute mark of a 10 goal last quarter.

A straw poll: How many here on D'Land have MFC-related plates? I am one (though I, like many, will prefer to sit on the specifics, to keep my anonimity).

I was at the 64 Premiership and have MFC 16 number plates because of John Townsend who played in that Final. Our latest number 16 Dean Kent looks like he could be a player in the ilk of John Townsend and help us towards that next elusive premiership before those of us that can remember pass on.

Help me, please. Does the number '287' have any significance? If so, what might it represent? (I appreciate that it might be relevant to the owner of the car, such as birthday on 28 July. But if it has some MFC relevance, I'd be interested in knowing what that might be.) Any suggestions?

I'm the proud owner of MFC plates but due to my desire to maintain anonimity I can't reveal the number.

Your anonimity is clearly assured!

He was also number 2.

Yep, that's the point, the 2 for Tulip and the 87 for 1987.

My straw poll was just about 'Landers, Robert (Are you RDMcK I, II, III or IV (or V?) btw?) not, for example, the subject of your OP or the mysterious '287' (unless they turn out to be part of the brethren - 'fess up guys/girls if you are!)

Robert Davis McKenzie 111. As Bob McKenzie once said, "It's a pretty fancy name for a boy from Prahran" Also interesting that his chief rival for best half forward flanker was Bob Davis of Geelong. Robert Davis to be correct.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
