I've been thinking about this, hypothetically if he was fully fit, where would you see him in the team?

Is he an instant starter with all of the new blood or just depth?

Who would be missing out?

Where would he be played?

Simple answer for me is no, he would be a fringe player. If he is completely injury free there is no reason he can't break into the team if he finds some form.

When he comes back, he plays at Casey until he's match hardened and it's clear that his foot will stand up to it. Most likely he'll play midfield. As soon as his form warrants it he'll start AFL on the bench, replacing whomever is injured or off form. He'll be played anywhere from HBF to HFF, although his preferred position is mid. After that, he is simply in competition with all the other mids. Or so I think. When he comes back.

For me me it all depends on if he gets his speed back (if it was ever there to begin with).

At his very best with some leg speed restored and with the ability to again kick 50m he would be a walk up start in our best 22. He has shown the ability to be a very, very good AFL player.

Jack has been badly let down by both his body and luck given the what this club has dished up over the course of his career here. Being Co-Captain of the MFC at 20 during the Neeld era couldn't have been an easy gig. He showed maturity and leadership beyond his years

But the chances of Jack returning to his very best? Remote or at least unlikely you would imagine. But then if he does get fully fit again and can complete the fairy tale comeback it would be wonderful.

On recent form, if fit I'd have him in Casey's best 18.

Beyond that I am not sure. Trenners needs to seriously recapture his best form.

I just can't see it happening anymore. He was a better junior than anyone on our list. Sad.

I think we have forgotten how effective he was at the end of his first year and 2011.

Whilst he wasn't ever lightening fast - he pace wasn't treacle as it become over the past two or so years.

His body has failed him. He is a smart footballer who would be very handy based on his early form.

Whether his body will ever allow him to return to his 2011 output is the big question.

Bernie not done by a long way yet. Cross and a FIT Trengove.....I'd take Cross.

does really beg a question about a fit intot the team. Will the Dees pass him by anyways ? Its just a question, no malice.

Whilst I applaud Trenners efforts he not only has to get fully healthy , he has to get fit, and then match fit. !! and then compete for a possie.

Lets suppose that around August they say yes foot looks good he can resume full training.

That means no games in 2015

So we then offer a contract to a player that has not played a game for 18 months who has had two very serious foot operations.

Now there is one I am happy I don't have to decide on.

Surely he would be at least offered another contract for 12 months. I know we don't want to be seen as a retirement home or a lost dogs home (thanks Crossy) but as if any other team in the comp would pass up the opportunity to take a punt on a kid with such wonderful attributes.

His body and the utterly stupid decision to make a kid captain are both the significant factors here.

Watched the replay against the Eagles the other night when it was on fox where we got pumped. I forgot how awfully slow he looked in that game looking like his body had let him down probably along with his confidence. Surely if we get his foot right we will get a look at the old Jack again.

He could be that little cherry on top if we start getting competitive again forgetting how good of a player we have on the side lines.

Agree nut. Unfortunately his foot injury is one of the most difficult injuries to diagnose and manage. it will be very difficult to return to the top level for any sustained period of time given the amount of sustained running and variation of pace now required at the top level, i suspect that he will be walking a tightrope. my guess is that these injuries will become more common as time goes on. I hope I am wrong but I have a bad feeling about this one.
