Number one son, who is a passionate Demon, has just been relocated to London for a couple of years and I'm trying to work out the best way to get the footy replays to him.

I had the idea that I'd buy a DVD recorder with a SDHC slot to record the footy onto the SD card. I'd then upload that file to Dropbox (or something similar) so he could download it and watch it on his TV.

I've been told by a sales person from a store that sells DVD recorders that this won't work as the AFL footy is copyrighted and will only play on the machine it's recorded on.

I'm a downright nuff nuff when it comes to this sort of thing and I'm hoping the tech savvy here may be able to give me some insight and ideas on the best way to do it.

It'd be easier just to buy him the AFL Global Pass. You can watch all the games live and on demand on tablets and phones.

I've got the AFL Live app and can hook my phone up to the TV.

Tim, I am overseas til May and have been the last few years and have found the AFL overseas subscription very good, can watch all games including preseason live and replays. It's about 150 for the whole season and if he has decent internet coverage and a laptop or ipad can watch any game he likes and I'm sure there's a way he can watch it on a big screen TV too. It's well worth it and simpler than what you've pointed out but I may have misinterpret he situation.

Global Pass is the way to go. Not overly expensive and can watch games live. The timing is actually pretty good in London with most games being early in the morning but not middle of the night.

The sales person sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about. There shouldn't be anything preventing you from doing that however as the previous posters stated the best bet would be to just sign up for the AFL'S streaming service. Should check with the club first as I know some clubs overseas membership packages include the AFL Game Pass with it.

He puts a live stream of Melbourne games on and saves some of them as full replays, hosted on his YouTube account.

Not sure about the legality but his know-how is excellent

Afl service can watch whenever he wants plus can watch all games which is very good if bored overseas and you love your footy.

You need an adapter. I've got a Slimport plus a HDMI cable to connect my mobile to the TV. I think from memory is cost me about $50.

I'm another fan of the global pass, works a treat and love the option of watching any game live or in replay.

Is your son a member? If not the Dees offer an international membership for $179 that includes the $149 AFL global pass (so he gets a Dees membership for $30).

Or if he is a member you can get an add on to your Dees membership where they give you the global pass for $110 saving him $39.

I'm in the same position, i.e. OS. Nothing to add, covered above, but as Redbeard points out, can be done through the club as part of membership.

Just to reiterate, all games remain viewable, it's not just a live stream. Be aware though, they only broadcast the games themselves, with a short lead-in (10 minutes or so). If he wants full pre-post game coverage (for example), he'll have to look somewhere else.

Just to add. You can relay anything on your Phone, iPad, PC etc on to the TV with Apple TV wirelessly
