THE ESSENDON 34: ON TRIAL

Featured Replies

I dont actually see what the conflict is.

You have wrongdoers who shall be punished, and rightly.

Mediation, what for ?

This isnt btw about the LAW...its about RULES.....to which all parties are bound.

Fair enough BB showing my ignorance so probably should not have commented but all i see is an intractable dispute that has to be settled in some way. maybe as you say it is simply enforcing the rules. however with all the vested interests don't see EFC accepting heavy sanctions and if they come about, there will be appeal after appeal. nobody wants that. everyone has their price.

Ernest...it WILL be resolved That occurs with the process having worked its way to its logical conclusion. This may yet require appeals etc from any and all but it will end. That this may not happen to a schedule of the AFL's liking is tough turkey really. That this may upset and annoy various to do with Essendon is really of no consequence. Do the crime, do your time.

If those governing a sport see a breach and subsequently impose a penalty well thats all there is to it.

Not everything has a price, sometimes principles are above it.

Essendon may well not like whats coming there way, but there was a simple solution to the current state of affairs.........

I dreamt last night that Hird came to us as an assistant coach on a six year contract after getting the ar$e.

Even in my dream I was questioning it.

It was Karl Jung who was big on the significance of dreams, not so much Freud. By the way, what does it mean when I dream of standing on the tee of a golf course and not being able to hit the ball off no matter what I try to do??

For me that's NOT a dream.

ASADA are only pursuing TB4 which makes me think they think they have a slam dunk case on that and didnt need to pursue the rest.

The AFL's charge sheet was only in relation to governance issues and NOT anti-doping violations (explicitly at the request of EFC funnily enough which opens them up for further club sanctions of the players are found guilty). However the charge sheet was informed by the ASADA investigation and the preliminary report they released at the time.

Interestingly, I think the opposite.

ASADA has had no choice politically but to take some action. My suspicions are that TB4 is their best chance which is why they've gone with that one over all the others. Given that it appears that the evidence is non-physical (ie, not a positive drug test result, but matters such as interviews, purchase orders and chains of custody), getting a case on each substance would be difficult, time consuming and potentially very arguable. I have no idea whether ASADA's case is watertight or not - but I can see the possibility of a less than solid case being pursued for political reasons. I suspect ASADA would rather try and fail than be seen not to be pursuing the matter at all.

OK! Then blame your Anima! (and move your left hand more on top of the shaft (of the golf club!!)

it means you really need to buy those new clubs you saw despite the cost and your wife's objections

While that could be a possible scenario, do you believe that is plausible govern the number of external reviews by independent parties? I.e. judges, usada etc.

Also, remember that the ASADA action ended when the players were issued show cause notices. It was then a separate, independent (Abbott) government-appointed, anti doping review panel who took the ASADA case, reviewed it and decided to place the players on the register of findings.

These steps are independent of ASADA and are effectively bipartisan. Is it really a plausible scenario when all that is considered?

Stick to the 19th hole?

Sticks, balls, holes! Must be Sigmund's birthday!!

hmmm

i don't know what's worse. your dreaming of the golden boy or climate armageddon

seems you are stuck between a rock and a hard place, pm

a few early wins by the boys may be your salvation to a good nights sleep......let's hope

haha..taking political discussion outside of the General board mate? Tsk tsk..

A few early wins will certainly do wonders.

There was talk Hird reacted to the "program" with a case of priapism.

Maybe the lude-all usage was isolated to himself? (Assuming he didn't have a minion acting as the applicator).

Hogan kicks eight = 7 days priapism.

New word, love it.

Looks like 2 of a kind, Nixon grilling Hird.

Edit: Richard not Ricky, could be Ricky?

When does Hird have to lodge his appeal by? It cannot be too far off!

close of business tomorrow, I believe

Doesn't matter if they accept it or not. If they cop suspensions (let's say for arguments sake it is 2 years) they have the right of appeal however until the matter is heard at the appeals tribunal the suspensions will remain in effect. So they can appeal but they'll be sitting in the stands while they do and they won't be allowed to train or have any contact with the club either as far as I'm aware.

The fate of the EFC supplement scandal seems a bit of foregone conclusion kind of like Abbott as PM. A few people have opinions either way but the majority of people have lost interest and will just wait while things run their course.

I think players will receive 2 year bans.

I think they should get 2 but might get 1. Wada will appeal if only 1. I think theres still much to play out though beyond the players. Watch this space !!

Edit. A very possible outcome actually might be18 months. Dont think Wasa would appeal that. Players would but will be on deaf ears I suspect.

18 months would finish some careers and dent the rest. EFC would be in strife...

With six months already served they'd basically be given a year off and back for 2016 (albeit with no pre-season training under their belt).

How is six months already served when they have been allowed to participate in pre-season training during that time? I sure hope that Hird appeals!

I am not all over the law in regard to this matter, but cannot see how this conflict can me settled any other than by way of mediation. the wild card has always been hird. however, cannot see how the AFL, EFC and ASADA can resolve this any other way. ultimately all the parties need to move on.

I have always said on here that the judgement from the AFL Tribunal will not be the end of it. Hird and Little clearly seem to think they can intimidate the local tribunal through their network of press, political (State and Federal) and sporting contacts - and they are probably right. The initial findings in April I am predicting will be grossly inadequate, will be appealed initially to the Appeals tribunal of the AFL, will be still inadequate, and will then be taken to CAS by WADA.

McDevitt was merely reflecting this reality. I wonder how many of the Senators were ESSENDON supporters. I bet a few were. They seem to be everywhere in the political establishment!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
