CHANGES 2014 - Retirements, Trades and Delistings

Pick 3 being our last live pick doesn't sit fantastically well with me I've got to say.

I hope Newton and Frost add something long term to the club, as they are essentially our second and third round picks. Taking non-22 players from other clubs at the expense of the draft seems risky, though I accept that the draft is risky too.

Interesting times.

Don't worry Nasher. Don't think it will be the case. I believe 40 will be used, and a list change to come soon.

Evans, Terlich and McKenzie I agree, but I reckon Matt Jones is good depth.

Don't agree here. Matt Jones is extremely overated. As my mate says " A good player for the opposition!"

There are no certainties with draft picks.

The difference between ND pick 40 and RD pick 2 is minimal, and the chances of that pick becoming A Player is equally low in both cases.

It's actually ND 40 v Rookie pick 19. I know which one i would prefer to use

Or PSD No. 2.

just read on a Melbourne supporters group facebook page that Tapscott trained with the group today. I guess he could be a chance at a rookie spot

I honestly don't see the point given his output since he was drafted.

A few players saved their careers this year with last chances to get their act together.

Bail, Pedersen, Jetta.

Perhaps 2015 could be the year Fitzpatrick, Jones (Matt), McKenzie, Spencer, Terlich, Toumpas, Trengove & Tappy if indeed he is picked up as a rookie.

If their attitude and fitness has been a problem, then it is fixable, but if it is ability then I'm afraid it's on your way sunshine.

There is a few SA boys that could supply us with some trade bait.

I'm pleased the club was able to achieve its list management/recruiting goals without de-listing Trengrove. He will be on the LTI and one of our rookies will be promoted at the start of the season. Gives the rookies are real incentive to work their butts off during the pre-season.

Maybe if we did delist him and/or transfer him to the rookie list if would give us pick 2 in the PSD which may or may not be a proposition when we look at the other Club's delistings?

10 new players added last year on the list.

11 new players this year (subject to re-rookie)

That's half the list.

Correct. By the end of next year I believe we will have turned over about 70% of our list, of only a year ago.

Wow, that is huge. However, completely necessary. We really had some average players on our team.

Just thinking about who we have recruited [and are predicted to pick], if they are all fit at round 1, it may be a difficult decision as to who to leave out? [e.g. Where do you play Grimes when you have a backline of Jetta, Dunn, Frost, HL, McDonald and Garland?]. This problem is repeated in both the midfield and the forwardline, with our likely incoming players.

A nice problem to have, for once....pick the best available player and team, regardless of how long the player has been around or their status on list.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
