Reasons why and why not to sign up in 2015

I started this thread because I have been a continuous member for 35 years and now am starting to question the value of a premium membership to the MFC.

I love my football club but I do not love this current team.

For the past 3 years I have lost interest in attending games on a regular basis. Simple reason for this! The football has been bad to watch.

At this point in time I question our medical and fitness staff to keep our best players on the park.

I question our recruitment staff for obvious reasons.

I question the majority of the list on their ability to compete with the rest of the competition.

I rate our coaching staff

I rate our current administration

This leaves me with a decision to sign on for a 36th year. Probably sitting at 60/40 today, with the hope Roos will get the job done and some players will reach their potential.

I am guessing I am not alone with questioning paying another membership

My only reason needed was Jesse Hogan. He could be anything (or nothing if injuries continue), but boy am i excited to see him play! I understand what you are saying though.. We really need a star free agent next year to brighten things up.. Go Dees :)

I understand as I am in the same boat myself. I however am planning on moving overseas again so I might get an international membership.
Luckily pre-season salves some of my wounds. However, I don't think I have been as disconsolate at a game of footy as I was when the Giants opened us up at the G. The Suns loss in 2013 comes very close but I think the Giants game was a moment where I said 'no mas'.
I probably will in the end but I have cancelled my rollover to mull over whether membership is worth it. That is the first time I have done that since I came back to Australia.

If you rate our coaching staff and administration then it is reasonable to conclude that you trust the path our club is on. Our club needs members so if you want us to succeed then yes, you should re-sign.

On a personal note I think we will play a much more entertaining brand of footy this year. Think our games v Port Adelaide, game v Richmond and first half v Adelaide.

A membership is about 50 cups of coffee... hardly worth quibbling over. One thing is certain though... if large numbers of members fail to renew, then the odds of the club wallowing in the mire can only become greater.

These are the questions you should have been asking 3 to 4 years ago. There have been radical changes in the past 12 months. You have given 35 years membership and support. Pulling out out now means you have given up and lost all your investment in the club. If you have gone this far, best to stick it out and hopefully the payoff will eventually happen.

We as a Supporter base must expect to win 10 games this year...

After studying the Fixture we are a "chance" in 13 out of 22

We must be hard on the club if they wish to have access our collective bank accounts

Or what? We should call the MCC in to audit the club again?

Personally, I am more likely to renew when we are at our lowest, because that's when it is most needed. I don't like what has happened in the last 8 yrs either, but I think Team Roos has begun to turn us around. I see a future better than the recent past.

Posted

Reasons to renew

1. Because the club is on the right path but needs our financial support to succeed

2. Because if you don't and we improve dramatically you miss out

Reasons not to renew

1. MFCSS

What an horribly average thread.

You see a better Future or HOPE for one...The last 10 games of 2014 were a disgrace...

I love what PJ has done for our club, but if the players do not get up to an elite standard physically & mentally it will amount to nothing

We must put the blowtorch to the results next year...

Roos Year 2...It has to happen...(vast improvement)

Really? I'm questioning upgrading from normal membership to something more. Im bloody excited.

I live in Geelong and travel up the highway to my 11 games a year i get with my membership, and usually go to more when we play at Etihad or are the away game etc.

Whilst the MFC is painful, they also bring me such joy in my life. There would be a massive hole in your heart to fill if you didn't i recon.

Edited for accuracy.

The list is continuing to improve. The recent additions and delistings are a good thing. We have good draft selections. Hogan will get games. Very good additions to the coaching team. I believe we are on a better path going forward than I have seen in the last 8 years.

9+ wins in 2015 is what I believe will happen.

Get on board.

Before Tony Mokbel was arrested, wasn't he building a retirement village down the Surf Coast?

Also, the Morans all got wiped out so there are no drug lords I know of around here (though a few houses with guard dogs, security cameras and metal awnings!)

Sensible post Soybean! I pay 500.00 plus for my trident membership and we had home games in Alice etc and a home game at Etihad where if I wanted a decent seat I'd have to pay extra at the gate. Plus we are sh it. I n my latest continuous streak, I am at 8 years at this level. I ticked the box and I'm paying on the 3rd November I think. However, another year of the same sh it and I wont cough up again!

This is the only year since I can remember that I won't be renewing.

I like the direction of the club, they can make me respect them now - because they have lost my respect.

For the first time in a long time, MFC are playing for the right to have me as a member.

Come on guys! I pay every year automatically, don't even give it a second thought. It is us people that keep the club going because we want it to continue. Every club has ups and downs, but you find out the true supporter when the going gets tough and you are down in the mire but once again the membership comes in and you pay! Bad times don't last forever. Grow some cojones, renew your membership and live in hope that the current administration is on the right track. I am supremely confident good times are around the corner, don't miss the ride!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
