Patrick McCartin

Collingwood supporter who has good connection to dees says 100% Melbourne will get Mccartin under the assumption that Saints will take Petracca...so don't worry Mccartin fans!

My inside mail says the same thing. If St. Kilda take Petracca, we'll take McCartin.

Personally I think this is a good choice.

I understand we need more midfielders, but of the other potential Pick 3s, none of them are true mids.

Laverde = Half back/forward flanker

Lever = KPD

Weller, Ahern, Duggan = all rated a level below McCartin in overall quality.

If there was another stand out midfield option, I could understand taking them over P-Mac. But there's not - in which case we should go the best available, and that means watching the McCartin and Hogan tag-team rag doll defenders for the next 10 years.

No brainer. Bradshaw - pick 2 ; McCartin pick 3. Or vice versa.

That said, Laverde looks set to be a great pick up.

Please, please, no more skinny, injured, coulda, shoulda, types.

This guy looks like Hogan v2.

Don't you do that to me.

And having type 1 Diabetes isn't "baggage"?

It might be baggage but some players can carry it pretty well.

You would hope we do due diligence on this if we are considering McCartin. I am sure we would have.

McCartin will not do more than Boyd or Patton did their first year, he's not even as highly rated as they were. Anyone here who thinks he will help our structure heaps next year are idiots. Meanwhile, Hogan will, because he has had 2 preseasons, a full season in the VFL, is bigger, stronger, taller, has a MUCH bigger tank for gut running & doesn't have diabetes to 'manage'. Oh, & even though he's not a 'pretty' kick, I'd still back him to slot em over McCartin.

I'd be surprised if McCartin does more in his first year or 2 than Pedo did this year for us actually.

Really, of this years draft, the only certainties to at least impact & play a few games next year are Petracca, Brayshaw & Heeney. Also, keep in my that in an uncompromisd draft, Moore was rated almost as highly as a prospect as McCartin & Wright. So really, is McCartin that much of a 'lock' as a future KPF star? Just because most 'experts' rate him top 3, it's in a weak draft & compromised at the top end imo.

Can you find us an example closer to McCartin's size & weight? Cause I don't remember Dale ever looking like he had as high skin folds as McCartin. Paddy's also said he's had blackouts before not managing it correctly.....

Nathan Bassett was not quite as big as McCartin (190 and 88) but was diagnosed as type 1 in 1997. He managed over 200 games and made All-Australian.

Its diabetes... He's not a lepper.

I've played footy, cricket, raced motorcycles and raced in marathon mountain bike events with type 1 and its only skill that stopped me doing anything professionally NOT diabetes.

Being a professional athlete is the perfect environment for micro managing T1D. Great fitness, nutrition and medical staff watching your every move.

His diabetes is less of a impediment to his personal future playing success at AFL level compared to drafting a kid with a previous hip, knee or shoulder injury.

Agree and as I have said before The midfield issues are being addressed ! We also have a better Half Back and Half Forward line to play.

Can I ask this when did we last have a KPF with a bit of Mongrel?? Think probably Nieta and Schwarta! That's it

So we have a chance to grab a kid who has got Mongrel in spades, Takes contested Grabs, Kicks well for goal and is agile!!

PLUS HE MODELS HIS GAME ON TOM HAWKINS AND JON BROWN !!

SHEEIT I'D TAKE HIM JUST FOR HIS AMBITION ALONE!! WHO ELSE IS SO BOLD!?

Forget Lever and Leverde for reasons provided above! we already have enough of these already !

BUT WHAT WE DON'T HAVE IS ENOUGH TRUE KPF

If we overlook this kid and someone else takes him and he makes an immediate impact Then several things will happen

I will hark back to the shizen recruiting that saw Ollie Wines become an overnight sensation

I will seriously question our recruiting staff and

I will struggle to continue to support an administration that has got it wrong YET AGAIN!!

Demonland will also go into a complete meltdown!

Meltdown come on down! Played golf today with my mate and he has CATEGORICALLY said we will be taking LEVER (i did it in capitals for you who can't read so well!). So there you go!

What a website this Demonland is. I know it can detereorate when people like me start putting in their 2 bobs worth,

but to come on today and see the information offered by Redleg and Warren Dean (I loved that guy) I can't help myself.

I really appreciate it. I would never expect such incisive and clear information from my newspapers. I'll keep checking every now and then till the 27th Nov.

My mail says the same.

Golf is a good example of making use of Levers - definitely another sign

I wonder if the Dees still hold hope of McCartin going at 1 and Petracca dropping to us. I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

And if that were to happen, would the Dees go Petracca & Lever? I definitely would

Glad your not on our recruiting team then.. Why on earth would we draft lever instead of Brayshaw if Petracca fell to us at pick two?

If I was on the Recruiting team we would have had a shot at a premiership by now jizzed1d. I have a very good track record of picking players throughout the years.

I'm entirely within my rights to say that I like other players more than than Brayshaw in the draft and time will tell whether I'm correct about it. Being a good recruiter means you have the capacity to look beyond the general consensus, casting an eye into the future to see what these kids will be like. Brock McLean was a good mature bodied ball getter as a 18 year old and look how how he turned out. I see Brayshaw as a similar type to Mclean, without the same aggression and these type of players can be secured low in the draft every year without fail. My choice is to look for superstar potential at pick 2 & 3 and not simply looking for a safe bet.

Safe bets won't win you premierships Jizzed1d.

It is interesting that posters are saying they have contacts who are telling them MCartin and Lever for 3.

One or both of these groups will be wrong. Is it possible the club is sending out some contradictory signals? If so I wouldn't know why.

Who did you have picked for us back in 2003 if not McLean and Sylvia?

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
