I've tried to decipher how many moves we have left in this trade period (I've never felt so exhausted after only one trade), and here's where Roosy's entire "list overhaul" sits currently:

In: Jeff Garlett (Carlton) Billy Stretch (father-son), Neville Jetta (rookie upgrade)

Out: Shannon Byrnes (retired) Mitch Clark (Geelong) Mitch Clisby (delisted) James Frawley (Hawthorn) Dan Nicholson (delisted)

So at this exact moment, that leaves us only two vacant senior list spots, for Lamumba and Frost. That leaves us with picks 2, 3 & 23 in the draft, and Blease, Strauss & Tappy all likely to be delisted. I don't believe we have any other players we can delist (anyone want to clarify?)

What this signals for me is we won't be looking at any pick downgrades like the Tyson deal last year. We might be aiming for something simpler like straight swaps of players for high draft picks.

Under AFL rules we only need to use one of these remaining picks in the draft. What I think most of us would like to see happen is one kept (2 for Brayshaw) and 3 and 23 traded for older players in our "missing generation" years. To me this simplifies what I hope our focus is in the final few days of the trade period. Spend all tomorrow shopping picks 3 and 23 for the best two established players available.

Have you listened to the Josh Mahoney interview on the website yet? He spells out our intentions pretty clearly on there.

By the end of trade period we'll hopefully be bringing in HL and Frost and will be looking to take picks 2 & 3 to the draft unless a club comes forward with a worthwhile offer before Thursday.

In spite of all the rumour crap that's turned up on here, I'm gonna take Josh at face value here and assume that this is exactly how the rest of trade period will play out.

So far 3 in, 5 out. We're sitting at -2. Lamumba and Frost to fill those spots.

The 3 more out for picks 2, 3, 23.

Unless we can shift or retire another player or we have someone uncontracted then you are right we won't do a deal that's 1 thing out for 2 things in. But remember the Tyson deal was 2 and 20 for 9 and Tyson. So we could easily do 2 and 23 for a player and a pick.

The minimum rookie list spots are 4. The maximum is 6. So we do have flexibility to trade make other various changes, use a minimum of national draft picks and instead pick up more players in the rookie draft (I gather at this stage we will have only 1 rookie pick). For instance we could trade our high picks for a player, then trade out a player for only a pick upgrade, then replace that player with a mature age rookie who can provide us with some depth.

A heap of permutations but 2 days left to see what comes of it. 8 main list changes seems reasonable. With a split of 4 or so mature players of different ages and up 3 or 4 draft picks. Something for the future, something for now.

Would be fair to say we've left ourselves very little (if any) room to bring in DFA's this year, aka Daniel Cross last year. It'll likely be whatever these final 3 picks bring in, unless there's a 3+23 package deal in the works and Roos intends to bring in a Clint Jones type DFA.

Something that has me stumped is what we were planning if Trenners + 23 had worked out for pick 12. If it went ahead, we would've had 4 vacant senior list spots but only picks 2, 3 and 12 to fill them. It almost definitely wasn't 3+12 for [insert dream scenario here], because that would've left us with 2 vacant spots and no picks remaining to fill them.

So that's got me stumped. Is it Thursday yet?

Not so sure about your numbers there, for one Clark doesn't leave until Lumumba arrives from all accounts.

I will have a look at my contracts thread on the main board.

And we can trade out all our picks and take two kids at 124 and 125 if we wanted to. There is no rule stating you must keep certain picks.

2017

Dunn, Hogan

2016

Dawes, Grimes (RFA), Watts (RFA), Michie*, Vince, Tyson*, Kent, M Jones, Spencer, McDonald, Barry, Terlich*, Jetta, Garlett, Stretch,

2015

Trengove, Jamar (UFA), Garland (RFA), McKenzie, Howe, N Jones (RFA), Evans, Gawn, Fitzpatrick, Viney, Toumpas, Pedersen, Salem, Kennedy-Harris, Hunt, Cross, Bail, Riley,

2014

Frawley (UFA), Tapscott, Blease, Strauss, Byrnes, Clisby, Nicholson, Harmes ®, King ®, Georgiou ®, Clark

* = Require confirmation...

List Spots Available: 1

Additions: ND2, ND3, ND23, ND83, ND93, ND111

Actions:

Byrnes retired.

Jetta upgraded and signed till 2016.

Bail, and Riley given (assumed) 1 year deals

Terlich given two years (speculation)

Nicholson and Clisby delisted.

Frawley FA to Hawthorn for ND3.

Stretch acquired in F/S for ND40

Garlett acquired for ND61 and a swap of 5th round picks.

Here is the list as it stands - if we delist the three still OOC and move Clark for Lumumba that will be 4 spots on the Primary List.

I have included Jetta in that so 2, 3, 23 and Frost in the PSD may be all we do from here until the Rookie Draft.

The is no space for DFA at this point.

Surely you'd delist and pay out Evans in a heartbeat if a decent DFA appeared on the horizon. I'm sure I could find a couple of other candidates if I looked for another 5 seconds or so.

Surely 2 seconds would be more than enough.

There would be delistees from other clubs I'd rather take a punt on (Roos is excellent at extracting talent that lesser coaches can't) than keeping blokes like Evans who clearly aren't up to the challenge. If they're destined to be delisted in 2015 anyway, we should be targetting blokes like Robinson and Burbury who show the kind of hardness Roos loves.

Someone in another thread said that two contracted players were told they might not be on the list next year. Would have to be Evans and McKenzie? I reckon even Patrenko would be an upgrade on them.

I don't know how many times I've asked this but I'm 99% confident you can't delist and pay out a fit and healthy player against there will. There contract is for money but it's also for opportunity of being on an AFL list.

I had heard talk that Evans would consider a package to step away from the list but at the same time his form in 2013 earnt him a two year deal and that means we are lumped with him if he so chooses and no club wants him in a trade.

Maybe one day we will stop giving out longer contracts to marginal players who aren't going anywhere. That includes Terlich, Matt Jones, Barry, Spencer etc #prolongingtheyuck

If MFC offered to pay Evans out and he insisted on remaining on the list, the only beneficiaries would be Casey 2s.

Agreed. If Roos told him point blank he won't play an AFL match again, he'd probably just take the money and bugger off.

Well, I don't know how many time you have asked but you haven't listened - you can pay out anyone but you will have to have that money against your cap and you will pay them their entire wage unless they agree to go for less like what happened with Clark.

Anyone can be delisted and paid out.

Are we able to rookie Jack Trengove - from what we have heard he is unlikely to play before late 2015, if ever?

Does anyone know of any gems likely to fall to 40 or 53 ? The likes of Tom McDonald's bro, or Cockatoo ? (Only names I have heard - I admit to not really knowing anything about them so please, someone, enlighten me / us )

The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
