Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Robbie Flower's greatest goal

Speaking of great moments, I remember going to a game at the 'G to see the Demons play Richmond - Robbie completely dominated one wing while Maurice Rioli had a blinder on the other. I know that sounds a bit vague, but if anyone has any better recollection or video of that game I'd love to know.

If it's the game I remember, our coach (Barassi?) had all our team on one side of the ground when kicking in from a Richmond behind with Robbie one out on the other side. He won almost every contest. And if I recall correctly, that was the last game coached by whoever the Richmond coach du jour was (Bourke? Jewell?). Not that being sacked by Richmond as coach was anything special. In those days it happened with monotonous regularity.

Robert Flower was my favourite non Essendon of all time.

You couldn't help but admire him and his football ability.

I put that DVD together years ago, and with Mark's help, put it on DVD for everyone.

I'm glad it's on Youtube, I want as many people to see how good Flower was.

I will be uploading my latest tribute to Robbie tomorrow on Youtube and will post a link here.

Jack, I've been looking for footage of that Windy Hill goal since you told me about years back.

Still haven't found it, but would give anything to see it if there is footage of it.

If Seinfeld is right, I will never see it.

Hope all my old friends at Demonland are well.

It was Francis Bourke as I recall me and some idiots friends starting the "Sack Francis Bourke" chant as we were not meant to win that day. We were very shocked to find out that he was sacked after that game. We put it down to us starting the chant.

I vividly recall that tactic and that day and we were amused that Bourke didnt think to have Richmond players crowd the wing that Robbie was on. But every kick out was a one on one ( I don't remember his opponent) and Robbie thought of every conceivable way to make his opponent look second rate. Either outmarking him or bringing the ball to ground for himself.

Also trying to remember individual goals ??? It like saying which of Peter Daicos' goals was the best. Flower was a true magician.

Someone asked me if I could watch something again in football again what would it be - I was torn between 1987 Dogs v Melb last game and going back and watching every Robbie game again.

Good to hear from you Craig and hope all's well in the world with you.

(Could I suggest however, that you don't read the Essendon redacted thread - not good for one's health) :)

Cheers

Things could be better for me when it comes to the wonderful world of AFL, but other than that, I'm good mate.

I hardly read anything about the "saga" these days.

Every journalist has taken a side, every one has an agenda.

It's very hard to get information without a particular slant on it.

So no disrespect, but I never intended to read the thread here as I can imagine what is being said.

No one actually knows what is going on, strange decisions are being made, and no party, not Essendon, not ASADA, and not the AFL are coming out of this looking good.

What will happen will happen, but I'm preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best.

Unfortunately though I can sense a 10 year like stretch for Essendon similar to that of Carlton after the Salary cap scandal in the early 2000's.

Our financial position is weakening by the week, players are leaving, no player wants to come to play for us.

Draft penalties, and who knows what suspensions, if any, will be handed to the players, and what then will come of that.

On a different topic, my Robert Flower highlights "library" has grown quite a bit in the past few years.

I'm always on the look out for footage of the great man.

I will post a musical highlights tribute video hopefully tomorrow on Youtube, but if anyone has any ideas of another Robbie video, I'm open to suggestions.

Maybe his top 10 goals, or top 10 marks, or both.

Like everyone, I was upset when Jim Stynes passed, but I was devastated when I heard the news last week.

RIP Robbie

And they weren't insignificant possessions back and forth across the backline like we see in today's football. Edited by Mgdee

Thanks for posting that Go the Biff, so many wonderful highlights of the great man and so many memories.

Robbie was a wizard with the Sherrin, I'd almost forgotten just how good he was.

No worries. I'm very much looking forward to Ash's next production

Probably shouldn't call it highlights as Robbie did stuff like that most weeks

Someone on Land or Ology put together a Flower DVD about 7 years ago. there was about 30 minutes of footage on it. I can't find my copy, but I'm sure that goal was on it.

that was WYL's DVD, shown at the Stkilda bowling club with Beamer & Chips Frawley in attendance.

A piece of 16 mm slow motion workprint shot 40 years ago from HSV 7 Dorcas St,

Sadly the chances of that surviving are slim.... :(

goes to show with our 'Channel 7' contacts, & Television contacts over the years, why this club could let stuff like this go thru to the keeper at the local tip.

we really have been asleep at the wheel for the last 50 years.

Its 2014, & I'm dismayed that these Bits of our history are non existent anymore.

was it the clubs projector WYL ?

No idea DL.

I just bought in the DVD's and left it at that.

It was mostly from the Northey years when i worked in the Newsroom. We would get a direct feed from 7's Truck.

No ads. Glorious!!

I saw a great deal of RF during the eighties and I guess I took it all for granted, he was so good.

You expected the same quality week in week out and he delivered.

Dug mine out & had a look. That goal isn't on there. There's a bit against Essendon where he makes a couple of State players in Glenn Hawker & Daisy Williams look silly.

It's a seventeen minute Celebration of Robbie. Great stuff. Looking at that Elimination Final it's hard not to feel sorry for North's Roy Ramsay. Poor bugger never had a chance that day. Flower mopped up Mark & Goal of the day & pu on a clinic

I'm pretty sure if was Mark the pinball man (markc ?) who put it together & distributed it. I think it was a small donation to the club that secured you a copy

I have a copy and it was Mark Culbert who was good enough to provide it.

If I had the know how I would put it on YT.

Here you go :

Robbie Flower Highlights

He was even better than I remembered - and I remember him as one of the best ever to pull on a boot. No matter how heavy the traffic or how good the opposition he was untouchable. Dodge, weave, balk, blind turn... and not a finger laid on him. He was pure silk wrapped up in a skinny, all knees and elbows body, with a humble and selfless manner.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
