Bah ha ha ha! "Overated" Iv'e now "Heard it all" Ollie Wines Overated!! Bah

Posted this on the 'trades' thread but perhaps more relevant to this one.

...

I agree. Toumpas looks okay to me.

His greatest crime appears to have been in being selected ahead of Ollie Wines.

Hardly his fault, and not the only player in that draft to be selected above him.

In fact, it'd be interesting to know who Port would've selected with pick 4 if they were in our position. As we all know, all the clubs had Toumpas going ahead of Wines on draft day.

That Wines would now be selected ahead of most in the league is a completely different issue.

Last night BT was in raptures over the size of Ollie Wines thighs - I found that all a bit disturbing. He mentioned it several times....

But as my mother used to say "you get what God gives you". I think it was meant in the context of the children you got lumbered with! We have Jimmy, he seems like a nice bloke and I am sure he will come good.

Well for once it's good to be in minority even though it does my head in!

You think you should be a recruiter picket, so for future reference, tell us all: who would you pick in the draft for us this year? Say, picks 2, 3, 22 and 40 if that's where we are positioned.

Don't be shy.

Presenting The Ollie Whines Lounge. A place where all the ollie whiners can come to mingle.

What's that? Ollie Wines had 46 disposals, 18 clearances, 14 tackles and kicked 7 goals? Need to cry into someone's shoulder?

This is the place for you.

Forget creating new threads to tell the world how angry you are.

Forget "gee that Wines kid goes alright, thanks Mark" in every second thread.

This is your one stop shop for the great big sook.

In The Ollie Whines Lounge, you can bleat and moan to your heart's content, free from the judgement of others. Never again will your insistence that you "knew Wines would be a star" fall on deaf, uninterested ears.

Enjoy our unrivalled selection of tissues and hard liquor.

Relax on our vinyl couches where the tears just roll right off.

For the dead eye dicks, you will find our dart boards, each with a bullseye featuring either Mark Neeld or that awful Jimmy Toumpas. Show your friends who really wanted Wines more.

After hours and feeling that impending mix of sadness and anger? Retreat to our Self Flagellation Room (proudly sponsored by BBO).

Whine in comfort and style in The Ollie Whines Lounge.

And when you leave, please, for the love of god, shut the [censored] up about Ollie Wines.

You have seriously got to be [censored] me.

My memory often plays tricks on me, but I seem to recall Jack Viney rating Toumpas ahead of his good mate.

Your dodgy memory is the same as my dodgy memory but I didn't post because I couldn't find the reference. My dodgy memory recalls Viney Jr rating Toumpas as the number pick and suggesting he wouldn't be around at our pick.

Yep, I remember that as well. He was asked something along the lines of "who out of this year's draft would you love to play along side?" and he answered Toumpas.

Jimmy will come good. I remember watching that game in Darwin where he was subbed off. He was devastated. Hadn't touched the ball, played sick and in the heat but was trying his guts out. Eventually that sort of passion and determination will pay off.

The truth of it all is, we MUST get pick 7.

Aish, Wines, Haynes, Caddy, Rich, Sheppard, Palmer, Selwood, Ryder, Lewis,

You have to go back to Kane Tenace to find a player who hasn't made it to a full career, and almost all of those selected have become or look like becoming A-graders.

There is absolutely no guarantee Jimmy will come good as many suggest. It only really a hope and in some ways a near desperate one for if this doesn't transpire its another wasted pick.

I also hope he does as we need good mids. Jimmy might become one, Ollie already is.

Just hope Dimitri isnt the new Sylvia of sorts.

Ive nothing for against this kid. I only care about the footy and the list wearing red an blue.

Currently hes only just an adequate VFL player. He has a lot of ground to cover.....if still on OUR list in a few months time.

I trust Roos Taylor and Co. Be interesting to see what THEY do.

No greatest crime was not being selected in front of Wines it was

1 Our greatest need ( inside ball winning ability was neglected)

2 Question marks over recovery after double hip surgery (pace gone)

3 Go Home factor.

Regarding who PT would have taken my Sth Australian source strongly suggested at the time that Port would almost certainly gone with Toumpas.

Ollie is the reason Port are playing finals.

Hell, if we'd drafted him we'd be playing off in a prelim this weekend.

I must one of a few that genuinely doesn't care and enjoy seeing young kids play well. I'm admittedly angry that he's playing well while the guy we chose over him (when we appeared split between the two) can't get a kick at VFL level. But that's how drafting works. One kid got drafted into a team now destined for greatness, the other into one of the worst teams of all time. If it wasn't us that picked Toump over Wines, it would have been someone else.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
