Goodwin's Law?

Featured Replies

Just had dinner with a mate who sponsors the Dons.

Said he had a night out with Goodwin a while back, along with Hird et ors.

Said Goodwin presented as a top bloke and a thoroughly impressive potential future senior coach and that the entire Essendon coaching staff absolutely rated him, including James Turd.

We must get him.

A couple of interesting paragraphs from separate articles in the Age. Do the sums and draw your own conclusions....

While all parties have denied a deal has been done, Adelaide is also expected to formalise the appointment of player agent Justin Reid to the club by November.

The Elite Sports Properties agent and son of former Crows football boss John Reid appears certain to assume the role of Adelaide list manager, a move that has raised eyebrows at rival clubs, given Reid's current role.

The Sanderson sacking also surprised the coach's management, the influential Elite Sports Properties, which had been preparing to meet with Sanderson on Friday and had been heavily involved in the conversations between Goodwin and Melbourne. Goodwin was the frontrunner to become senior assistant under Roos, in which he would be in pole position - or have an outright guarantee - of the senior position once Roos finishes at the end of 2016. Like Sanderson, he is managed by Craig Kelly's ESP.

The guy who predicted Roos to Dees, Tony Sheahan, just said on twitter that Goodwin to Crows is a done deal?

He also was the first person to say Franklin was going to Sydney, when everyone was sure he was going to GWS.

As good a source as there is at this time of year IMO.

Adelaide's done a Brisbane and sacked its coach to ensure it gets the one that's available before he signs with Melbourne. Only this time they've managed to do it in time.

Must have the hacking thing down pat after working at the Hun.

I don't know ... would the Crows go down the 'inexperienced' coach route just after sacking the last one? I get it that Goodwin is a favourite son, but especially if there are issues with senior players, surely they need a "senior" coach?

Let's remember that Goodwin was still going to have 2 years under Roos before taking over at Melbourne.

Too soon?

Adelaide have Bomba Thompson lined up.

Nothing surer.

Sorry, I don't quite understand your post ... Sheahan just said on twitter that "Goodwin to Crows is a done deal?" Is that a question or statement?

Well everyone was saying Goodwin to us was a done deal Monday, so either he's done a shifty on us or people are jumping to conclusions.

Not the end of the world if we miss. Not sold on succession - there could be an excellent coach - clarko, Scott twins, bucks, Hinckley - looking for a new role - more money.

haha this shows up the real kinda guy Goodwin is ....

no loss here!!!!

Used us as bait to get the job he really was after at the crows.

Just like he texted to Dank : "Get me the good stuff"

Goodwin - Get ya good medicine and go and get stuffed you self absorbed [censored]

Oh how i would love for him to sign up as Roos' successor now!

its always fun going out on a limb

No way will it be Thompson, the GC job though is a whole different story.

...Thompson as a good Vic is too smart to go to Adelaide.

This is one reason I admire Ross Lyon. He got out of the Agents clutches and risk of Conflict of Interest and did his Freo deal himself. Chinese Walls with player/coaches agents are fantasy.

Great comment RJ!.

How could we entertain Goodwin after the Bombers saga. Who leaked the info to Riccuito last year etc?

Favourite sons don't work necessarily - Voss, Hird, Barassi, Bucks. Good luck with this Crows.

Who are/were the top 4 coaches now - Clarko, Scott boys, Longmire, Hinkley, Roos, Hafey, Jeans, Northey, Balme, Daniher etc. Professionals.

Jackson and Roos will get the job done re: succession.

Don't think anyone saw this coming...

This is my view on it -

Over 10 days ago Goodwin and MFC had verbally agreed on the senior assistant position. Even so he'd told Essendon he was moving on..

Meanwhile, Sanderson was offering up for trade the senior players, Dangerfield and Tex, as he thought the current list wasn't capable of making top 4.

This upset a lot of the leadership group, Ricciuto and the board. Fearing backlash from the supporters, the only way to stop Sando was to to sack him.

No doubt Goodwin has been approached by AFC some time this week and asked if he would be interested in the role.

It's by no means a done deal, but he's now got a big decision make.

The sacking of Sanderson has thrown a massive spanner in the works.

So much so, only yesterday, Roos was jetting off to Hawaii with Goodwin and Dangerfield a fait accompli

Edited by PartyBoy

Roos might be flying back tomorrow.

Thanks otherwise for the info PB. I really hope we land Goodwin. And Dangerfield.

Rumour on facebook saying Eddie thinks Goodwin was going to sign and be announced today

And what's Eddie got to do with it anyway?

Don't you know Eddie McEverywhere runs the AFL & Colonwood?

Bomber wouldn't burn Sanderson.

Very close.

Good get - Bomber scathing of Adelaide this morning.

wait.... are you suggesting that posters on here jump to conclusions ? For shame......

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
