Geelong is going to have to pay overs to get him. Adelaide will match and pay him $1 million a year. Geelong will have to part with 2 first-round picks and a player because their picks alone won't do it.

Can Geelong afford to give up draft picks at this stage? Danger is only 25, but...they're going to lose a lot of experience over the next few years and I'm not as encouraged by their depth as their fans are.

Without doubt this has been brewing for some time. Obviously Geelong knew a bit before the Crows But they all have known for long enough to have formulated a battle strategy for all of this.

Also beyond doubt the 4th estate are sensationalising it all as much as possible....sells papers.

This looks to me like a game of "blink". Adelaide can steer it their way ( to best possible outcome ) but they are also then treading a fine line.

Going to be interesting to see who blinks first. What we do have though is two Clubs that are sensible enough to get deals done.

She added that Danger was determined to get to Geelong without them giving anything up. Ostensibly, because he wants them to be successful when he gets there so he doesn't want them to trade and give up their 1st round pick(s)/player.

She said that he might do a 'Luke Ball' (same Manager) and go into the PSD.

But Garry (God bless him) piped up and said he would never get past the teams below Geelong...paraphrasing here: Demons would throw the cheque book at him and work out later how to get him to love playing for the club.

That would put the 'cat' among the pigeons for the AFL...of course it won't get to that.

So Danger wants to get to Geelong without them giving anything up to get him, but instead he wants to s*** all over Adelaide who would get a single solitary pick that's worse than Geelong's first rounder? And even though he's letting Geelong pay him an artificially low contract (if $800K p.a. is the true amount) by rejecting higher ("market-priced") offers from other clubs?

I have no great love for the Crows, but I hope they bleed 'em dry! This year's first round plus future first round as a minimum, and for good measure throw in Blicavs!

Absolutely HH. We appear to be desperate for Jake Melksham (Jake Melksham.... ffs) and Henderson and Dangerfield wander in to Deliverance Town for a song. Equalization appears to be an absolute ripper. And surely it's time for one of the major political parties to commit a couple of mill to another Kardinia Park upgrade, what with the 20 members from other clubs looking for somewhere to sit. But Luke Ball had medical issues, and only one club had access to the all-important medical report. That's the only reason that nobody else could call their bluff, the unknown medical risk was too much. There's no such risk with Danger.

Has a FA offer ever been matched by the player's current club with the view to trade for value? Not aware of one yet.

If that happens, how about we get in on the mix:

Adelaide get Geelong's 2015 and 2016 first round picks and Jimmy Toumpas.

Geelong gets Danger and gives up 2 x 1st rounders and Horlin-Smith (or insert alternative GFC player name here).

Melbourne gives up Toumpas and gets Horlin-Smith (or, as above)

no trading in nd and psd. player can set his own contract terms. if you bid you accept those terms. nothing for original club

so if he sets $800k as per cat's offer and goes intp psd (or nd). demons could pick him up for $800k. no need to bid over

I don't think that has even been thought of at AFL HQ - not writing things down allows them to make something up that best suits the narrative that plays better in the media so I really cannot tell you.

But it isn't written down anywhere...

I would say they will allow him to name different contract terms if he enters the draft, as it will give Geelong the best chance to grab him, and really the AFL wants the player to go wherever he wants to go so that the PFA doesn't have 'Restraint of Trade' fit.

your last bit would obviously be illegal and so obvious down the track i doubt geelong would risk the ramifications

this also assumes that at draft time geelong would have 1.8m left in the cap. it would have to be a lot more subtle than that and pass the afl sniff test
