It was reported on 3AW last night that Roos had a plan for a complete rebuild of the MFC list post season. It was reported that Roos is looking for 5 picks in the top 20 in this years draft and is also looking to bring in 5 mature players.

We are likely to get:

  • pick 2,
  • pick 3 (Frawley),
  • a good possibly (that's the clubs opinion after initial discussions with AFL) a PP at either 1, 4 or 20.
  • We will also have 2nd Round pick at ~20.

This means we will need to trade for at least 1 probably 2 or 3 picks in the top 20 considering at least one of these picks will be traded for a mature age player. Apparently the MFC is offering as trade bate the following players:

  • Watts
  • Grimes
  • Trengrove
  • Toumpas

Apparently Roos is looking to trade out at least 2 of these 4 depending on what is offered.

The mature age players will come from a combination of Free Agency, Trades and delisting's (aka Cross).

What are supporters views on this? Personally I have full faith in Roos, you have to give away talent to get talent, clearly he is trying to break the poor culture by bringing in new core players.

*** Please note this is not from my contacts inside the club, I have no idea if true. This comes from Gerard Healy and others on 3AW last night. However, they were claiming it as a scoop.

Sounds plausible.

Something different needs to be done. You could argue that going to the draft again is the same, but it will be done with different recruiters withe different targets and priorities.

As long as we don't go recruiting a whole bunch of second tier free agents which ultimately dilutes the Frawley free agency compensation pick then I'm for a list change.

The culture and list smells of failure and the past, we need to rectify this and bring in as many fresh new faces that will have an immediate impact but a positive one. Mark Neeld tried to do this but ultimately failed (Terlich, M. Jones, Gillies, Pederson, Byrnes, Rodan, Clark, Dawes, Toumpas(?). A few of those we can let slide, however ultimately it was a new list that didn't change anything except having to change it again.

However, Roos made the first step in the clean out as a positive one recruiting players who actually HAD a positive impact in Cross, Tyson & Vince. If he can achieve what he did last year but on a more extreme level in more player cuts and acquisitions, I'm excited in seeing what happens!

As I said on another thread last night regarding this so called report, anyone who believe's this garbage is downright gullible. This is just mud raking by the media at it's finest. You had all better watch out as the sky may fall down.

Posted

There's a whole lot of 'apparently' in these scenario's.

I think it's possible that the AFL may deny us the priority pick but guarantee we get a top band compensation for Frawley, considering their recent stance on the PP. It'd look bad for them granting us one and there'd doubtless be comments from other clubs about it.

Recognise something needs to be done and Roos is the man to do it.

But I find the prospect of giving up those 4 players as seriously depressing. Prior pick 1, pick 2, pick 4 and pick 12 and two of which are current and recent co-captains. Very sad day that it has come to this (if scoop is true). Not the players fault!

any Legionaires will be got for picks Juzz, we've learnt.. You donate throw away late picks you get from other trades. Its a joke really, but it works :)

I would prefer you get in touch with your sources at the club before you give credence to 3AW.

Trading assets at their lowest value is not ideal...

Watts, Trengove (especially), Grimes and Toumpas would have more value on the list than on the market - whatever low opinion posters may have of them on the list.

Id pref to hold Trengove and Toumpas and offer up Howe Garland Kent or Dawes

Why Kent? Just interested to hear your thoughts, as I've thought he's shown enough to persist with in his first couple of years on the list.

He has shown glimpses that will get attention from other clubs. He doesnt come across as the smartest footballer however which will mean his capacity to learn the game better may be limited. I think his trade value would be decent.

I think Toumpas and Trenners are much smarter footballers.

I pretty much agree, although I think a second year player still has the capacity to learn from someone like Roos and is worth persisting with. Kent can be selfish at times and not make the best decisions but I think he can learn those things over the coming years.

Of course it's not ideal, but what options do we have RPFC.

To break this virus and culture that is so evident at the MFC, we will have to do things like this. I think Trengove and Toumpas won't be used as bait because they haven't been given enough opportunity and they're both smart footballers with the right mindset and they're skillful.

Watts and Grimes on the other hand would be one's I'd be happy to offer up to get an early second round pick for. We've see how many good players can be picked up later in the draft, brought to a club and developed properly.

It's the only way we're going to get out of this mess. The only way.

We need to rebuild properly. Meaning drafting the right kids with the right skill sets and minds, develop them properly and build a culture and environment around a core group of mature players who understand what it takes to train and play at the level.

Supporters and posters are scared because we've tried to do those things in the past but it hasn't worked but it's bleeding obvious that we didn't have the right coaches, recruiting staff or senior players in place to make it a success.

We all have to trust that we've got the best people in place now to oversee and make these decisions. I'm absolutely at the stage where I'm happy to see another rebuild if done properly. I'll welcome Roos trading most of our players out if he believes they can't contribute to the change we need.

We all need to completely let go of the care for individuals at the club. No matter how much of a 'good honest bloke' they may be.

This is about the survival of the MFC.

I don't disagree with your assessment, however I will say that some footballers (such as Kent) probably actually get the game plan of someone like Roos, or the 'just play your role' because that role is clearly defined and laid out. I think it would be fair to say Kent has been one of our better performers once getting out there on the park.

Don't think I would like to lose him, but again I think he does have value on the market.

Other teams wont trade for a crab. If you want talent you need to give talent.

, talent you can afford to lose.

I wouldn't ......both Toumpas and Tengove far too slow for modern footy plus a few other weaknesses.

FWIW I would put HOWE in at Full Forward and leave him there for the season!

Absolutely.

Hard. Quick. A good left foot usually. One of few goal kickers.

He won't be going anywhere.

I think a lot of this needs to happen, Toumpas is the one of the four i'd most like to hang on to,

the highlighted line to me suggests that Ryan O'keefe would be a good chance to be picked up

Not commenting on the plan but horrified if that's a genuine leak from inside the club.

There are leaks and there are snippets of half truths that are strategically allowed to be dispersed in order to achieve a certain objective.

If any of this is true I would place it in the latter category.

I'd say there might be a little truth to it in that some of these players are up for grabs if a good deal is offered, if not they will stay on
