Not sure of our changes, but I predict GWS will rest anyone who can play good football.

And they will still probably beat us Redleg cause that's what Melbourne do.

Would not be surprised at all if we lose this "un lose-able game"

like to get a look at King & Harmes.

Georgiou? Clisby, Nicho.... sort the list now for this season.

King and Harmes aren't ready. No benefit in handing them a soft debut. And I'm the other 3 can be evaluated at VFL.

Famous last words old dee!

I just feel that we go in with a 50 50 chance DO and I want to feel positive about a game for a change.

I just want to enjoy a game before the end of 2014

Also the last game I will be at this year so Positive Pete this week.

Harmes has played better footy at VFL level this year than JKH or Salem. If he gets his chance it will be on merit.

No change. Riley to start, JKH sub. Continue use of guys like Barry, Watts, Vince, Riley, Michie, Cross, Matt Jones in a range of positions I think is a good idea. Keep the structural players (talls, lock down defenders, top mids like Tyson, Jones) in set spots but mix up the small forwards, half backs and wings like Hawthorn do.

Grimes as a Co - Captain will come straight back in if fit to play so there will be one change at least.

Big IF there Maggot.

No certainty from where I sit.

Do you think we were any the worse for his absence on Saturday?

I would like to see if Roos can make anything of Strauss - I still think he has the attributes and its probably his last roll of the dice. (never know - could find a diamond in the rough like Jetta)

We really do need a rebounding backmen with pace and a good kick - I think the thing stopping him getting a game is his one on one work.

JKH, Bail, Watts and Jones would all be on thin ice if Casey was any good. I expect Bail will bounce back quickly, JKH is forgiven for being inconsistent for its his first year but Jones and Watts are lucky they received contract extensions recently.

I can't really see Grimes taking his game to another level (and he needs to). Unless he can miraculously improve like Pedo, I don't think he will be captain for long.

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing Grimes play on the HFF in the defensive role that Bail plays (with Bail taking over from Cross as the designated tagger once Cross retires - if Bail lasts on the list that long). For all Grimes woes with kicking, at least the goal posts are 7 metres apart which is greater leeway than the game allows on any other part of the ground.

As you said Grimes isn't a great kick (definitely not a penetrating kick) - we miss enough goals already. Not to mention that it would only add to the amount of lofted bombs inside 50.

We will always struggle to kick over 10 goals when we are bombing into a stagnant 50m arc.

I might be ignorant. But it's pretty self explantory that Pederson wasn't actaully dropped. Didn't you see him at the game on Saturday with all those bandages around his face. He didn't look right mate.

Pedersen had surgery to fix his face.

Actually read the reports from Misson and the match preview from stone. Pederson was scheduled to have the surgery at a week or so later but 'after not being selected in the team, we bought the surgery forward' . Pretty self explanatory

When you break your nose you need a small operation to set the nose back in place. This his replaced the old fashioned process of just 'setting it' back by hand. You can't do it in the first 4 or 5 days after the break as you have to wait for the swelling to go down. And once you have the operation for an every day person you wouldn't play for a month or so to allow the bones to heal. For an AFL footballer you can probably risk it after 1 or maybe 2 weeks out.

If Pedersen was in the squad he would've played Saturday v Hawks, had the nosed operated Sunday or Monday, then been touch and go for selection again v GWS if all things went well.

Instead because he was dropped they booked the surgery and got it done last week, he then missed all games over the weekend (hence the nose plaster) and then should be touch and go for this weekend be it AFL or VFL level.

Just wanted to clear that up. And also point out that AFL players play games with broken unset noses if need be and play games the week after surgery (it's minor surgery) where every day people would wait a month or so for contact sports.

Strauss is GONE - time to forget about him. I think Grimes would add a bit and would prefer him on HBF rather than M. Jones.

Put in those terms Maggot it is not a hard decision.

Sadly I think you're right. For a guy who has been pretty consistent at Casey playing a position we're weak in you'd think he would be in the senior side if they hadn't already decided to move him on. I was of the opinion that they would bring him into the side for the last few rounds to give him one last chance to prove himself, but at this point it's not looking at all likely. It's a real pity because as I said it's a position we're weak in and we really do need a good attacking HB flanker who can kick a ball well.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
