Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

PRELUDE:

As many of you know I have been a strong advocate of Sydney's Tom Mitchell, I wrote a thread to target him prior to his AFL debut and have continued to raise the point that he should be in our sights. In that regard I have found it strange that a player like him, who is constantly performing in the seconds at a high level can not crack into the senior side of Sydney while the likes of Brandon Jack and Zac Jones (haven't performed as highly in the seconds) have continued to get games ahead of him. It's only made me speculate that maybe he has refused or delayed contract talks until the end of this year (currently being his third season) when he most likely falls out of contract. Due to this lack of senior games and my somewhat obsession it caused me to follow him in the NEAFL and in doing so I have come across yet another quality young player that is certainly worth targeting. His name is Shane Biggs.

BIOGRAPHY:

Shane BIGGS: Age 22, Height 187 cm, Weight 84 kg.

http://www.sydneyswans.com.au/player-profile/shane-biggs

Third season at the Swans, originally selected at pick 13 of the 2012 Rookie Draft. Made his AFL debut in round 23 of 2013 and in total had three senior games (two during the 2013 finals).

Will be out of contract at the end of this year and will either need to be elevated to the senior list or delisted. We should put forth a proposed trade that should see him come cheap (3rd or 4th round pick) and here's why.

NEAFL statistics (averages for 12 games total with 1 goal total): 32 disposals, 21 kicks, 10 handballs, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 0 HO, 1 FF, 1 FA, 3 I50, 5 R50.

* Before people get on their high horse saying "It's the NEAFL - a sub par competition equivalent to the VFL reserves", I rate him so highly because his numbers are close to Tom Mitchell's, and Ryan O'Keefe's while higher than the likes Jonathan O'Rourke.

Mitchell's NEAFL stats (averages for 5 games total, with 6 goals total): 35 disposals, 14 kicks, 21 handballs, 6 marks, 5 tackles, 0 HO, 1 FF, 1 FA, 5 I50, 1 R50.

O'Keefe's NEAFL stats (averages for 8 games total, with 4 goals total): 30 disposals, 16 kicks, 14 handballs, 5 marks, 9 tackles, 0 HO, 2 FF, 2 FA, 5 I50, 2 R50.

O'Rourke's NEAFL stats (averages for 8 games total, with 4 goals total): 26 disposals, 13 kicks, 14 handballs, 6 marks, 3 tackles, 0 HO, 1 FF, 1 FA, 4 I50, 1 R50.

Here is also a list of disposals stats BIGGS collected per game:

Rd.1 = 29, Rd.2 = 28, Rd.3 = 31, Rd.4 = 29, Rd.5 = 25, Rd.6 = BYE, Rd.7 = 30, Rd.8 = 42, Rd.9 = BYE, Rd.10 = 26, Rd.11 = 28, Rd.12 = 32, Rd.13 = 30, Rd.14 = 50.

OVERALL I think he could be a very good pick up at a very cheap price (3rd or 4th round pick). I would certainly have him on the list ahead Blease, Tapscott, Strauss, Nicholson, and Byrnes.

Some old footage but shows he also has some dash about him:

Considering he's 1. from Sydney, 2. relatively tall for a mid, 3. mature, and 4. not a big name.... he sounds like the kind of player Roo's would target.

Let's hope we get in there before them then!

This is a reason why ROK is a must for us.

Take Cross out of our lineup and look at the big on field leadership hole we have atm. Its no wonder we are playing so poorly since Cross hasbeen out.

ROK is similar to him. We are still a young side that lacks experience and on field leadership.

I'm also warming to ROK, depsite his age I'd rather than a slow gun than slow young dud thats currently on our list.

Plus he could be backup for Cross, we're missing him at the moment.

Lleadership leadership, RO'K... he'll teach & lead. I'd offer him 2 Yrs playing on a modest contract, Heavily Loaded for senior games played.

RO'K is the type we want helping our kids, on & off the field. a winner

I'd make him Captain of our reserves team; & assistant coach as well.

maybe a trade of Watts to the Swannies (for a swans player), would benefit us all.

I mentioned him in another thread.

I've only ever seen him play back flank. He's handy. Good pace. Attacks the game. Needs a lot of work on his defensive game and to tidy up his kicking. I'm not sure he'd be a significant upgrade over Grimes or Terlich. Not saying he's bad but he's probably not the Shaw or Malceski we need at half back either, but he would put pressure on those we currently have.

Now if he can play wing then that's a different ball game entirely.

Worth scouting and we can't replace all that we have on our list with draft picks. We need some high value trades as well. So I'd offer pick 45 onwards to Sydney and a 2 year deal on modest money to Biggs.

Another excellent game from Biggs on the weekend. He and O'Keefe would have been 2 of 3 three best on ground.

Round 15 stats:

Biggs: 1 goal 1 behind, 34 disposals, 31 kicks, 3 handballs, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 0 HO, 1 FF, 1FA, 6 I50, 6 R50.

O'Keefe: 1 goal 3 behinds, 32 disposals, 20 kicks, 12 handballs, 5 marks, 7 tackles, 0 HO, 2 FF, 0 FA, 3 I50, 1 R50.

T.Mitchell did not play.

Again Biggs was one of the BOG's over the weekend. I'm certainly impressed with this young blokes numbers who should be approaching his prime within ~2 years as apposed to O'Keefe who has left/ leaving his.

Round 17 stats:

Biggs: 1 goal 0 behind, 41 disposals, 28 kicks, 13 handballs, 6 marks, 6 tackles, 0 HO, 0 FF, 0 FA, 3 I50, 10 R50.

O'Keefe: 2 goal 2 behinds, 35 disposals, 22 kicks, 13 handballs, 4 marks, 3 tackles, 1 HO, 1 FF, 2 FA, 3 I50, 4 R50.

T.Mitchell did not play.

NOTE: Round 16 was a bye.

Anything about disposal efficiency?

Unfortunately I don't have access to that, even the data uploaded onto the NEAFL site via Champion Data lacks the DE (%).

Pretty damn important given our current HB stocks.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
