Tripping

Can someone please tell me why that weed Hayden Ballantyne was not suspended for the blatant and deliberate trip that cost the Dogs an almost certain goal??

It wasn't even a 50m penalty. This was supposed to be an automatic report??

it wasn't even looked at by the MRP!!!!!

As if we didn't know the MRP was completely trucked. This confirms it yet again.

Also, watch the attempted mark by Yarran in the last line of defence against Brisbane and as he is coming down note that J Brown grabs his feet forcing him to drop the ball and Brisbane score a goal from it. Should have been a mark or free to Yarran and Brown should be suspended.

Tripping by hand at one stage was reportable AND incurred a 50 m penalty but, as is their predilection, the Rules Committee needed to add to their annual rule change list some time back, as to justify their very existence, , and I believe both penalties were dropped.

Maybe the MRP take into account that Brown has broken just about every bone in his head and have a "not quite there" dispensation they invoke for such occasions.

I watched this incident a few times and in Brown's defense Yarran came accross the front of the pack, Brown closed his eyes as he would have anticipated an impact, and Yarran's boots came perfectly in his hands - instinct took care of the rest.

Not reportable, but Yarran should have been paid the mark or been given a free.

I highly recommend it .

Most of my greatest insights come from it.

Can't see anything wrong with it. I think we as Demons supporters should have passed some substance around last year to get us to mellow out.

Should have used the Shower Scene from Psycho version... a kind of "stay away from the brown acid" cut.

Was I the only one to pick up the trip by hand on Nathan Jones that resulted in him stumbling and fumbling and Robbie Gray picking up the ball and kicking a goal in the 3rd quarter ?

Not doubting you but anyone know if this is right?

Also, what about the kicking in danger rule? Does that not exist anymore?

jeff White says "hi", with some difficulty.

AFL RULES OF THE GAME

19.2.2 Specific Offences
Any of the following types of conduct is a Reportable Offence:
(g) intentionally, recklessly or negligently:
(i) kicking another person;
(ii) striking another person;
(iii) tripping another person whether by hand, arm,
foot or leg
These are the rules in black and white. So Mono it should definitely have been looked at. It wasn't. Why?
Ballantyne is a dirtbag. Can't see why he would be protected over this. He definitely made a lunge to trip.
I swore I would not get angry with MRP decisions as they are so pathetic in their inconsistency but this is beyond a joke.

Yes,this was a free kick and on the replay you could see from the camera view over the umpires shoulder

Very poor and should be questioned by umps panel about this,as he was staring straight at the incident.

Absolutely.

And I can't stop smiling.

Smile you might, but remember it may happen to us one day and there will be another 1,000 pages on a thread about us being ripped off,

Asked the local league umpire down the road about this jnr.

He said at local level kicking in danger only brings a report or free if there is injury.

Tripping is a free kick and a report if injury.

He also said he thought the AFL had the same.

Time wasting is a 50m penalty as is stepping over the mark or laying a finger on a payer after he has marked it. This act was worse than all of thise and cost the dogs a much needed goal.

And it wasn't even looked at by the MRP.

I suggest melb players go out and trip everyone this weekend as its clearly acceptable to stop play. Free kick only.

Thank you for clarifying that.

We see trips almost every week, often intentional, if not reckless or negligent (there would appear to me no way to trip anyone other than by one of those three categories) yet IIRC there have been no reports this year.

Yet the pathetic MRP "looks at" and often charges guys whose only intent is what surely must and should be the principal object of our game, getting their hands on the ball, who happen to collide with the head an opponent who in many cases has himself made a reckless low charge at the ball.

No balance whatsoever.

No common sense whatsoever.

No consistency (or maybe just the consistency of those things one may unfortunately, perhaps even negligently or recklessly, step on in a cow paddock).

And as a result of their consistent inconsistency, one may reasonably have doubts on their impartiality.

Often reactionary. PS: Watch out in the forthcoming round for a spate or MRP referrals for tripping by hand.

Agree with all that monocular except you seem to rule out the possibility of unintentional, non-reckless trips which are just a free kick, not reportable. These happen occasionally and are sometimes penalised.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
