Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 10

Whys that bbo we can still compare even though he is in the seconds!!!

I reckon he'll become a useful player Ox but seeing him alongside a tough head like Wines --- well it wouldn't do Jimmy any favours at this time.

They're coming off a tough one while we are rested. We have a strong side (though Dawes is a key loss) they have some important outs. I'm sure the team will see this as litmus test and go for it. Who knows - if we are still in it deep in the 3rd quarter they will feel some pressure?

It's funny, I know Port have been very good but I still look at that team and think there are a lot of no name players. I don't mean to be disrespectful, I just think Melbourne should be competitive.

Of their no names the only place I think they have a potential weakness is small defender where both Impey and Pittard play (that said Broadbent and Polec are very good) and their depth of small forwards and outside mids like Jake Neade, Kane Mitchell and Paul Stewart.

But when our players who will line up on those types are either kids like JKH and Salem or guys like Bail and Matt Jones.

Is anyone else really worried about Schulz? Neither Dunn, Garland or McDonald are really the right match for him.

Mentioned it on another thread, but I'll mention it here as well..if Dees win this, I'm in for a donation to Demonland. $30 if they win plus $3 per goal regardless of the game's outcome.

No doubt Melbourne is full of no names, this Port Adelaide team just isn't overly intimidating on paper (yet).

What a ridiculous post. Would you rather have, for example, Vince, Tyson and Viney, or our emergencies: Toumpas, McKenzie and Nicholson?

Use your brain.

You miss my point.

For years and years, we have had posters here regularly suggesting (not saying this particular poster) that given that player "x" is out we are a shoe-in.

The point is that whoever comes in he will be busting his guts (or should be) to hold his place, and often the "unknown" surprises us..

Just beat whomever is there.

Here's the beauty of the current line up - if the above 3 don't work out on schulz we have a pretty handy full back in Frawley and another by the name of Pederson who can swing back and Dunn can go forwards we have built in options. To change the dynamic if it comes to that. The real hope is the sliding back line and backward running mids will help out and it won't be too many 1 on 1's with Schulz regardless

Thought Salem may have been due for a run at Casey, but not displeased. Happy with selection, as I have been all year really.

Yes I agree I thought Salem needed a run in the magoos with only 8 possessions last match. Jimmy is a bit stiff I think.

howe has been named in the forward line, would not be surprised to see him as a spare floating down the backline to help negate schultz and co.

He won't be a spare floating down there he'll be a starting defender.

I think it will be:

Dunn - Schulz

McDonald - Westhoff

Garland and Jetta - Wingard and Robbie Gray not sure which way they'll play this so far

And Howe, Grimes and Terlich will pick up the remaining players who play forward. Howe is a vital defender now with his intercept marks and ball use. In fact he's right up there with our most important defender because right now he's the best of the 7 of them at giving some drive from the backline.

You clearly missed mine, and you're the one who attacked first.

Who said we were a shoe-in? I certainly didn't - you'd have to be mad.

If we win I too will donate $30 to Demonland. :D

Port a bunch of no names?

Thanks Victorian media.... Everyone will see how legit these "no names" are when we play them.

He's also incredibly slow, quite timid and another very poor high pick.who belongs in the seconds

That's what I see 'Roost it' never quite got the excitement about him that some on here seem to have

He wasn't the obvious choice at the time and he is very slow when I have watched him live

Toumpas reminds me a lot of Ryan Griffen early days. I think that he has some strong attributes and a great attitude so we should give him some time. Way too early to consign him to the "poor high pick" category.

Disagree with your matchups of Dunn on Schulz and McDonald on Westhoff. I'd swap them around.

McDonald should always play on the premier forward who is likely to kick the most goals - which is Schulz.

We should have learnt this lesson against the Bulldogs when Dunn played on the dangerous Crameri and had 4 kicked on him. McDonald should have taken him.

Having said that, Westhoff can be very dangerous on his day.

The interesting thing about Toumpas is I feel he has been very serviceable this year, averaging 17 touches, high efficiency, getting more physical and a few tackles, kicking almost a goal a game when he plays, and showing signs of class, the pass to Watts against Richmond was just beautiful to watch.

but I think that gets missed because of the Wines comparisons, I am happy Wines is playing as well as he is but I don't have an issue with Toumps output and training habbits for a second year player.

Chad Wingard would be a great fit and huge feather in Nev's bow should he be able to repeat his effort on Betts

Maybe you meant "huge feather in Nev's boa ..."?

Any thoughts BBO???

Sub predictions? Riley, maybe?

Should be Salem. Riley is a better chance of impacting the game for longer but Salem would be a dangerous set of fresh legs at the end

This would be the way I'd go.
