Great result and great support from the majority of the football community, I doubt we would have had success without them.

There always those that will call black if most call white, but they are generally attention seeing try hards who don't care about the issue only the resultant publicity. Good on Dermie and Roo it was great to see them put it in simple terms and stand up for the integrity of the game.

There has to be some changes made to the tribunal to get some new and younger blood on the panel; it would help if they played AFL Football this century.

Jack being interviewed by Barrett on Footy Show ....... how could he?

His type have no shame and he's probably forgotten what he said last night or the night before.

Jack should get 4 weeks for leaving Barrett's jaw intact.

No, how could Jack be bothered with a tool like that.........

Great result. I love the way @jackviney7 attacks the footy. Now bring on the doggies.

Clark bleeds red and blue ... not Maroon, blue, and gold.

If Clark ever returns to football I think it will be for the MFC

yes...it would make a great story, but extremely unlikely that (a) he will make a recovery (b) regain fitness and enthusiasm and ( c) put himself in the draft and survive to get back to us

Still...one can but dream

Three cheers for justice

Ten cheers for the Melbourne Football Club

This was widely seen as a 'landmark case' for the game we love ........ take note that it is also a 'watershed' for the Club we love and cherish.

We are on the rise ....... enjoy the journey!!

Or even AFL football in general. Theses are VFL and WAFL fossils. Need some new blood/jury of peers

Our case was very strong, but I didn't think we'd win. I'm so utterly over the moon that we did.

Getting an accurate depiction of what transpired at the appeal (and the original hearing, for that matter) via the media, and in particular those in the media whose preference for journalism is tweeting, is difficult.

Keeping that in mind, though the reports of what went down at the hearing today did not, on their face, make it sound like we were going to win, it has to be remembered that this was two QCs arguing their point to two more QCs plus a lawyer. There was always going to be complexity to the arguments that wasn't easily explained via Twitter or a live feed.

Does anyone know what the actual relevant rule is? An article on AFL.com.au last December talked about changes with regards to "electing to bump" and contact to the head being a foreseeable outcome but I can't find it in the 2014 rule book on the AFL website anywhere.

This is a post I wrote on BF;

Actually having a look at the rule book, the only relevant one I can find states;

There is nothing else in the reportable offences section I can find which refers to rough conduct (which Viney was charged under) and the only reference to bumping is:

which is not relevant in this instance as Lynch did not have his head down over the football. To explain what they mean by "head down over the football" there is a diagram under 15.4.5(n) which is the section which discusses free kicks.

If there is another section of the Rule Book which applies I'd like to see it but from what I can gather the issue in this case is whether the circumstances were "unreasonable". There is nothing else I can find however I assumed the AFL had included something about "accidental head contact when electing to bump" which they have referred to as changing last year due to the Thomas/Reid incident however I can't see that anywhere and it's not on their website (that I can see) where they explain the rule changes for 2014.

, great work.

Just wondering if you have the clause numbers that this relates to? Dr. Gonzo, in a post after yours seems to indicate he couldn't find that rule, but I'm not clear if that is because he missed it, or because it isn't in the "official Rules" it is somewhere else.

Cheers

I found the wording of the rule in particular from this document: http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/2012/AFL-Tribunal-Booklet-2012.pdf

On page 12 it defines the charge of 'Rough Conduct'.

It's not an official set of rules, nor is it current to 2014 (the rule now makes clear that a headclash is something that players ought reasonably foresee, in light of the Lindsay Thomas decision last year). But it's something.

Shouldn't the prosecution have gone first or do normal trial rules not apply in a kangaroos court?

It was an appeal - the appealing party always goes first.

Love this. Let's give Jack a massive cheer when he gets his first (of 30+) touches on Saturday night. Must have been a tough week for him.

This has gotta be one of the best weeks of the MFC for a long time. We made a stand on and off the field.

.... Low base Pates.

I can't believe that people are now saying the bump is "alive" or "back". It's as dead as it ever has been, this incident had nothing to do with the bump.

Yeah you've to laugh at those comments, the entire basis of our argument was that it wasn't a bump it was him bracing for collision.

Really proud of my club for standing up not only for one of our own, but for standing up for what is right in the game.

Nobody wants to see anybody hurt out there, but this was an unfortunate accident.

Enjoyed the win Saturday Night, had the lingering doubt Sunday the MRP may be in two minds about the incident, so been focussed on this since Monday.

Now looking forward to Saturday Night again coming up against the Dogs, underdogs again we are and I like that, people still think Adelaide took us for granted last week and we were lucky

What is it we have been saying since Roos came on board and things have changed bit by bit, "Small Steps"

Well MFC hold your heads high because throughout this ordeal you have taken a very big step (off field)

Lets mix the icing on Saturday Night with a win

Go Dees

I was intrigued when I saw the jury panel.

I tried to get in the 1sts with the Essex Heights under 14s where Emmett Dunne was the outstanding star and looked as good as Geoff Raines.

He grew tall and I followed his career as he seemed to simultaneously lose that early gloss, became a total spud and then a cop. Bad show.

He is the type that would have a guilty verdict, just his go. Will probably run the cops in Victoria.

Moose Henwood I had a couple of kick sessions with and he was the most disappointing ex AFL/VFL player (swans, demons) Ive come across, couldnt mark, run or kick. Seriously. He was tough and I never got anywhere near his level playing competition but he was only late 30's and I felt sorry for his lack of skills. I fervently hope he reads this. He doesn't deserve to be on any panel.

The only glamour in that was Shimma who was fantastic, never say die and my only knock on him is that RDB picked him instead of Rob Flower as his favorite wingman. Ive got love for Shimma after what Ron Casey did to him. But fack him too.

So this panel is now shamed IMO. Im happy with that outcome.

Henwood, Schimmelbusch and Dunne

Those three stooges were all shamed publicly tonight

Love it

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
